Abbaye Saint Guilhem Le Desert, Saint-Guilhem-le-Desert

4.6
Abbaye Saint Guilhem Le Desert, a Benedictine Abbey founded in 804 CE, is an official historical monument with notable architecture. The porch of the church dates from the 12th century, and the bell tower was constructed in the 15th. The nave is taller than the average church nave, with four bays, double arches, and supporting pilasters. The nave and two aisles feature a semicircular, barrel vaulted design. Admire the relieving arches on the side walls. The well-preserved, ornate Altar Guilhem is in its original condition, with white marble and black limestone inlaid with multicolored glass paste. The lapidary features decorative columns and statues, as well as the marble tomb of the founder of the abbey and other sarcophagi. During the discovery and tour of this beautiful village we walked with my teenager and my six year old daughter in the Abbey for then enter a magnificent cloister then return in the walls of the Abbey where enthroned beautiful relics. Access to discover a small crypt under the altar. Beautiful Abbey both inside out while visiting the village by small streets

I am very disappointed by this village, not by its appeal but by the mismanagement of l.affluence. Is it by vice that tourists should try their luck in the village's tiny different parks? Chance reduced to zero because the number of parking spaces is clearly insufficient. 200 places for all tourists. No display showing the number of available places... traffic jams, pollution. Unnecessary forth. Inadequate signage. Save signage created frustration and anger. When you have a nice site, it n is not obliged to make "fun" of the world as well. I went with a mixed feeling on this village heritage of Unesco. Too bad. Signs indicating the number of places and d would emphasize the need to park at the Devil's bridge and take the free shuttle running every 15 minutes. Upgrade you please!
