The Tours de Merle are the ruins of a castle in the commune of Saint-Geniez-ô-Merle, in the Corrèze département of France. A feudal fortress from the twelfth and fifteenth centuries, which was subject of a classification as a historic monument since July 30, 1927.In the fourteenth century, Merle included seven castles, two chapels and village, owned by seven noblemen from Merles.During the Hundred Years' War, the English took one of the towers and a castle in 1371.In 1574 the Calvinists took the citadel, where they established a garrison, they were driven out two years later by the co-lords. But the fortress was abandoned by those who preferred to live in places that were more pleasant and certainly more accessible. Our Saint-Geniez-o-Merle holiday planner makes visiting Les Tours de Merle and other Saint-Geniez-o-Merle attractions simple, and helps you make a travel plan personal to you.

Really beautiful scenery and interesting history, but a bit difficult to navigate with a young child. (Lots of steep, slippery stone steps and not many hand rails.) Would recommend whole-heartedly for adults and older children.

Interesting castle ruin.
Amedee GordiniSeptember 1, 2017Fantastic views, a pity that there is more than two hours to get there. Disabled, are planning a pair of binoculars. I could not get on the site but the view is beautiful!
PATRICK DANIEL COURTINAugust 25, 2017How wonderful... Worth a visit, it plunges back into the medieval period with clear explanations. Attention long enough visit, is completely inappropriate people to low mobility and young children. A lot of narrow stairs... A regal yet to visit this castrum
Audrey ChabaudAugust 15, 2017Very pretty visit not really suitable for children under the age of 2 years. With the admission ticket there is a guided tour but which did not necessarily propose. Feel free to ask her... Enjoy your visit.
