The Tours de Merle are the ruins of a castle in the commune of Saint-Geniez-ô-Merle, in the Corrèze département of France. A feudal fortress from the twelfth and fifteenth centuries, which was subject of a classification as a historic monument since July 30, 1927.In the fourteenth century, Merle included seven castles, two chapels and village, owned by seven noblemen from Merles.During the Hundred Years' War, the English took one of the towers and a castle in 1371.In 1574 the Calvinists took the citadel, where they established a garrison, they were driven out two years later by the co-lords. But the fortress was abandoned by those who preferred to live in places that were more pleasant and certainly more accessible.

  • We did the free tour with little issue, as well as the course with puzzles for my daughter and we enjoyed very much! Great view at the top of the towers, attention to Vertigo! However for people in good physical condition (hard climbs, steep and very narrow stairs)

  • Guided tour, even in the rain we enjoyed the history of these towers. After 2 hours of visit, we have seen a very well performed show and under the Sun to finish. For those who love history and discover!

  • We have benefited from a new guided tour: very rewarding and cultivated with a very professional young guide. A new look at these old stones of 2 h, in a green setting. I recommend without hesitation.

  • Really beautiful scenery and interesting history, but a bit difficult to navigate with a young child. (Lots of steep, slippery stone steps and not many hand rails.) Would recommend whole-heartedly for adults and older children.
  • Interesting castle ruin.
  • The place is secluded and beautiful. The 'Castle' is presented as a row of towers at the center of a valley. Downstairs, a river and places shaded to rest. We have same asleep at the top of the Tower! The site managers are also passionate and generous. We also recommend featuring farm a few kilometres.

  • Great to see, remember to take water. Towers, so some points of the visit can inconvenience people sensitive to Vertigo (the roof of the second tower), but the majority of the site is accessible to them. I've done three tours already, each time the guides were very knowledgeable, knowing always respond and adapt to the public.
