The Tours de Merle are the ruins of a castle in the commune of Saint-Geniez-ô-Merle, in the Corrèze département of France. A feudal fortress from the twelfth and fifteenth centuries, which was subject of a classification as a historic monument since July 30, 1927.In the fourteenth century, Merle included seven castles, two chapels and village, owned by seven noblemen from Merles.During the Hundred Years' War, the English took one of the towers and a castle in 1371.In 1574 the Calvinists took the citadel, where they established a garrison, they were driven out two years later by the co-lords. But the fortress was abandoned by those who preferred to live in places that were more pleasant and certainly more accessible.

  • We found this place a little by chance and well worth the trip, the location is superb. Attention however to schedules, you got screwed by going there at 11: 00 in the morning and it opened only at 2 p.m., with no mention to share on the Panel of the portal

  • It's very surprising we discovered this place from the village of Saint Privat! It really not expected to discover this gem in this place! It is possible to visit the ruins, but we could not do it because enough reduced hours (from 2 pm the afternoon...).

  • Very nice to discover, a visit out of time. The panels give some explanations on construction. The maintenance could be improved (reception building, in the village circuit,...).

  • Really beautiful scenery and interesting history, but a bit difficult to navigate with a young child. (Lots of steep, slippery stone steps and not many hand rails.) Would recommend whole-heartedly for adults and older children.
  • Interesting castle ruin.
  • A site of more exciting to do at least once :) The view is superb, the towers are really very high and can make dizzy once at the top. The proposed activities are interesting (archery, gold) but limited in time. On the other hand, provide something to drink and a good pair of shoes!
