Chateau Soutard, Saint-Emilion

(100 reviews on the web)
Winery / Vineyard Food & Drink
Witness the site of an important innovation in winemaking (and taste the fruits of their labor) at Chateau Soutard. The chateau got into the winemaking business in the middle of the 18th century. It was during those early days that Soutard first began implementing the method of planting vineyards in rows. While it's natural today, 300 years ago it was less common. Visitors can tour the vineyard and castle, and taste some of its more popular wines. There's also an opportunity to learn about cooking with wine. Be sure to call ahead for this opportunity--it's available on a limited basis. Make Chateau Soutard part of your personalized Saint-Emilion itinerary using our Saint-Emilion vacation planner.

  • This place is posh, wow. The building and grounds were just immaculate. The wine was very true to the region, lots of acid. Not our favorite but still a great tasting.  more »

  • We were on a tour from Perigord to Bordeaux when our host recommended going on a tour at Chateau Soutard. It was super nice! Not only the wine, the Chateau and the vineyard, but also the young lady guide. She was very helpful, patient and nice. We had a great time!
  • The Chateau is beautifully appointed and quite impressive. I visited with a large group and our guide gave a lovely tour and handled the tasting very well. I thought it was worth the visit.
  • A very unfriendly experience - go elsewhere, there's plenty the to choose from!
  • Mediocre. Having never been to a château, we expected to see vines and grapes. Instead, we saw tanks, barrels and more barrels. The guide was nice, but spoke fast, as if rushing through the process. The wine tasting was decent.
  • Very nice building, the guide showed us a world that was completely unknown, it answers all the questions. Can't wait to drink the wines that we bought!
