Chateau Soutard, Saint-Emilion

4.2
#7 of 26 in Wineries in Saint-Emilion
Witness the site of an important innovation in winemaking (and taste the fruits of their labor) at Chateau Soutard. The chateau got into the winemaking business in the middle of the 18th century. It was during those early days that Soutard first began implementing the method of planting vineyards in rows. While it's natural today, 300 years ago it was less common. Visitors can tour the vineyard and castle, and taste some of its more popular wines. There's also an opportunity to learn about cooking with wine. Be sure to call ahead for this opportunity--it's available on a limited basis. • We were greeted by Olivier who explained the details of the winery, production process, etc. and we finish with a tasting of 2 wines. Very good experience in General and pretty much the place. I found it a little expensive the price of €20 per person, but if you consider that a bottle of wine costs €80, becomes acceptable.

  • I booked a private tour for my in-laws, my boyfriend and myself and we have taken their eyes. I already knew the Castle but this time I opted for the full tour: visit of the cellars, the (entirely renovated) House and tasting of 3 wines with snacks, all for € 60 per person! The places were both modern and rustic, it was breathtaking. A big bravo for the renovation of the building and especially thank you to Leah, who was adorable, smiling, exciting, funny and so on.

  • It was a very interesting and enjoyable visit ... Out of the center of town and we were walking to the Château Soutard. Its beautiful entrance with trees between the vineyards is impressive. We got to wait for the tour and we would like to buy some souvenirs and take a good wine accompanied by a delicious deli Board ... The atmosphere is very nice and unique ... The visit was good and we learned a little more about the production of wine. Another great experience ...!!

  • Exceptional place with wonderful views and helpful and fun staff. Great stop for a wine tour
  • We were on a tour from Perigord to Bordeaux when our host recommended going on a tour at Chateau Soutard. It was super nice! Not only the wine, the Chateau and the vineyard, but also the young lady guide. She was very helpful, patient and nice. We had a great time!
  • Very nice wines. 2010!
  • The Chateau is beautifully appointed and quite impressive. I visited with a large group and our guide gave a lovely tour and handled the tasting very well. I thought it was worth the visit.
  • Mediocre. Having never been to a château, we expected to see vines and grapes. Instead, we saw tanks, barrels and more barrels. The guide was nice, but spoke fast, as if rushing through the process. The wine tasting was decent.
