Discover the very first masterpiece of monumental Gothic art at Basilica Cathedral of Saint Denis. For a fascinating look at a royal necropolis, you can peruse the rare collection, featuring 70 carved tombs and recumbent statues from the 12th century, the only complete set of its kind in Europe. Twelfth- and 19th-century stained-glass panels cast multicolored rays on the statues. This was a pilgrimage site, a coronation site for many queens, and the burial site of many nobles and royals, including all but three of France's kings. • When the cathedrals of Paris and France can become simply "look inside and out we go" the basilica St Denis pulls you in and bids you "stay and visit our royalty, good or bad they made us the country we are homage to them and our history." Fascinating history as it regards architecture. First ever stain glass "Rose" window (thanks to Abbot Suger). This is not only a do not miss sight for tourists, it is a find me and you will be overwhelmed!
  • One of the greatest, most inventive medieval structures ever. This building leads to the Cathedrals of northern France. It's impossible to overestimate it's influence on architecture. When light came into the dark ages... The built philosophy of scholasticism... 🌞
  • I was very excited on my trip but when we came back it was awesome.
  • It's a historical Cathedral in Saints Denis . Good place for the tourists and the other peoples .
  • This is a step back in time! You're surrounded by the tombs of the kings and queens of France--including a rather voluptuous statue of Marie Antoinette :) And the stained glass is very beautiful.
