Cathedral of Saint Bertrand de Comminges, Saint-Bertrand-de-Comminges

4.6
#6 of 16 in Historic Sites in Haute-Garonne
As you enter Cathedral of Saint Bertrand de Comminges, notice the three distinct architectural styles from the 12th to the 16th centuries. The arches, cloister, and marble floor are Romanesque, including some of the tombs and sepulchers (burial chambers). The nave with arrow arches and much of the intricate stained glass is Meridional Gothic. The 67 choir stalls are Rennaisance style and feature characters and scenes from the Old and the New Testaments. Also, be sure to see the bizarre stuffed crocodile. This former cathedral is now a pilgrimage site on the Routes of Santiago de Compostela. Beautiful, very large compared to the small town. At the entrance there is a large organ placed at an angle (photos) that I had never seen before. Singles main portal at the foot of what looks more like a defensive tower that a steeple. Worth the stop.

The visit of the Basilica is free. Beautiful building, very nice work of wood, of beautiful stained glass windows. The pay part (the cloister, the garden, the treasures, the stall) worth a look, especially since the price is minimal (5 euros per adult).

Absolute must to see. Very beautiful with magnificent wood carvings. The gardens are also worth seeing - very calm. Just sit and contemplate.

Really a very important site. crossing point of the Camino de santiago. a church the old-fashioned way where you can still enjoy the choirs closed from medieval times. place of pilgrimage and with some incredible views over the Pyrenees. Worth doing guided tour with audio guide which costs 5 or 3 euros and leads us to discover all the curiosities of this church and your story.
