Passing by Rouen, it was my main activity of the day, and what a disappointment... Children who heckle and staff that does nothing (and parents no more than elsewhere...). I found great shame "renovation" of the old windows, painted in red, it takes away all the charm of the Museum and old storefronts "in their own juice". Lot of naturalised birds have colors neon limits on the beak and have been repainted in the also... I understand that the collection is not recent, but it is not at all natural... Pretty rooms and beautiful dioramas for some, but some places are badly lit, see not at all (for all that is Entomology and mineralogy...) Fortunately, the Museum is free...

Free museum that please both small to large. Plan to spend the time to go around. They are adding a section on animals in the region. The Museum is worth a visit!

For British visitors: this is a fantastic preserved and restored museum in the style of Tring Museum

Museum consisting of a lot of stuffed animals. Very impressive and informative for children

This is a very peculiar museum indeed. You actually feel that the museum is a museum in itself, as it is like going back in a "voyage" to the 19th century. It's full of cabinets and the animals date from 200 to 100 years old. They have a cabinet with "animaux monstreuse", something out of a movie. I personally loved it and felt like I went back in time at least 150 years when I was there. Highly recommended for people who lice history and quirky places!

Where to stay in Rouen

If your main reason for visiting Rouen is its famous cathedral, which inspired Monet to paint dozens of canvasses, consider booking your room at a hotel in or around the city center. Despite being within walking distance of the cathedral and the river, hotels in this area provide comfort and privacy at modest prices. If you're looking to splurge and location isn't your priority, think about staying at a luxurious hotel-spa situated farther outside the city, where you can have access to heated outdoor pools.
