Ecole Supérieure d'Art et Design Le Havre-Rouen, Rouen

(4.2/5 based on 320+ reviews on the web)
The former ossuary (a cemetery for plague victims' bodies) at Ecole Supérieure d'Art et Design Le Havre-Rouen is an eerie reminder of the plague's devastation during the Middle Ages. Take a stroll in the 16th-century, half-timber courtyard, which has four galleries with carved designs. Large beams in the fourth gallery feature haunting carvings of bones and skulls, as well as coffins and gravediggers' tools. Finding the entrance can be tricky. Keep an eye out overhead for a sign with the name of the atrium, which you access through a passage between two buildings,. As you enter the grounds, look to your right to see a mummified cat preserved in the wall. • This Court was used to store corpses which explains all the engravings and sculptures on the houses around. Even though it's sad to say it's rather a nice courtyard. This is a pretty dismal but very moving place. And interesting point of view of history. However, we find that there is constantly a heavy and heavy environment. Is this just in our heads? What is the history of the places that makes it so? You to judge.

  • One of the most beautiful places of the beautiful city of Rouen. Located in a courtyard, isolated from the noise of the city, is a former mass grave of the 16 th century. The time seems to be frozen. It takes to stroll, sit on one of the benches, admire the facades of the galleries, details of the woodwork. Soak up the atmosphere of this special place!

  • A court square with beautiful trees. Here was stored the corpses during major epidemics. Between those of the plague.
