(4.4/5 based on 240+ reviews on the web)
Pont Transbordeur - Maison du Transbordeur is one of only eight transporter bridges left in the world. A transporter bridge passes vehicles and people over water in a pod suspended from a trolley rolling under the deck. Today this engineering work of art is reserved for pedestrians and cyclists. The bridge connects the two banks of the Charente, between the towns of Rochefort and 'd Échillais. Visit the museum to learn more about the bridges of Rochefort. • The last bridge ferry in France. There are more than 8 in the world. Unfortunately its full restoration will end that in 2020 and here where the book can be approached as identified by the Palisades to the construction site. The visit is therefore only for aficionados of the industrial structures at the beginning of the century last as the walk along the Charente between more or less to abandon military warehouses and agricultural greenhouses is not as charming as claimed by tour guides. Negotiate this pedestrian detour under penalty of recriminations with the family! You can access the site in a vehicle which after all is the best solution, these aren't ballads on the coast that are lacking in the Department!

  • Real historical monument, don't miss this bridge if you move on to Rochefort. Enjoy a sunny day to go and enjoy a drink at the foot of the bridge, away from the noise of the cars!
