#4 of 16 in Things to do in Rochefort
Pont Transbordeur - Maison du Transbordeur is one of only eight transporter bridges left in the world. A transporter bridge passes vehicles and people over water in a pod suspended from a trolley rolling under the deck. Today this engineering work of art is reserved for pedestrians and cyclists. The bridge connects the two banks of the Charente, between the towns of Rochefort and 'd Échillais. Visit the museum to learn more about the bridges of Rochefort. • Hello; Although this bridge is still under construction (open in 2018), there's a lot to see. Firstly Museum, we can stay there an hour to learn. In this place, we offer you a virtual crossing (failing to use the now dismantled nacelle). Outside, only the pillars are still in place, because it is a complete restoration. A shed is the work done by the company. The disassembled parts (nacelle and apron) are certainly behind Palisades, but baskets for the eyes of visitors. A bridge was made in order to have a top view. Attention to the basket, you have to go on the north shore to see, as well as machinery. All this for free.

  • We recommend that you visit theatralitsee. "Guides-actors" are very good in their roles, special mention to Suzanne Simoneau... A visit which is interesting from the point of view of what to know about this kind of work of art in its historical and geographical context. We expect the completion of the work (2019) to review the ferry in its original state.
