Chateau of Rambouillet, Rambouillet

#2 of 10 in Things to do in Rambouillet
A modified 14th-century stronghold at the heart of the Rambouillet forest, Chateau of Rambouillet is a royal residence with beautiful interiors and exteriors. François I, the Count of Toulouse, the Duke of Penthièvre, Louis XVI and Marie-Antoinette, Napoleon I, and many others have visited. In 1883, the site then became the official residence of the presidents of the French Republic. Stop at the Queen's Dairy, a small sandstone building in the form of a Neoclassical temple. Look for the artificial cave with outer foliage, a marble sculpture of Julien, a nymph, and the goat Amalthée. In the English garden, visit the cottage built by the Duke of Penthièvre for the Princess de Lamballe. Its unusual decoration is made from shells, chips of marble, and mother of pearl. A small toilet cubicle with painted wooden paneling is adjacent to the great hall. To visit Chateau of Rambouillet and other attractions in Rambouillet, use our Rambouillet itinerary planner.

For once the castle is a makeover great of the roof to the basement. The stones are beautiful and the frames of the windows appear completely renovated color. Missing for me (only) some furniture that would illustrate a little more life or large meetings were held in very important moments of our lives. Adds a very nice Park with beautiful flowers, can also take boats to circumnavigate small islands only accessible by these means or in the winter by freezing weather. Very close to Paris is a very nice place to spend a great day among the greenery.

Lovely place, totally recommend to visit the castle and then wander around the lovely parc which is open most of the time. Gotta say the grass is just great and there's many lakes and fountains... Recommend it for a sunny day tho.

Very picturesque, the grounds are beautiful with long or short walks. The Chateau itself is currently closed for renovation until summer 2018.
