Chateau of Rambouillet, Rambouillet
(3.4/5 based on 200+ reviews on the web)
A modified 14th-century stronghold at the heart of the Rambouillet forest, Chateau of Rambouillet is a royal residence with beautiful interiors and exteriors. François I, the Count of Toulouse, the Duke of Penthièvre, Louis XVI and Marie-Antoinette, Napoleon I, and many others have visited. In 1883, the site then became the official residence of the presidents of the French Republic. Stop at the Queen's Dairy, a small sandstone building in the form of a Neoclassical temple. Look for the artificial cave with outer foliage, a marble sculpture of Julien, a nymph, and the goat Amalthée. In the English garden, visit the cottage built by the Duke of Penthièvre for the Princess de Lamballe. Its unusual decoration is made from shells, chips of marble, and mother of pearl. A small toilet cubicle with painted wooden paneling is adjacent to the great hall. To visit Chateau of Rambouillet and other attractions in Rambouillet, use our Rambouillet itinerary planner.

  • the castle is in the works at the moment but if you go through Rambouillet the passage in the Park is worth it. in summer, possibility of boating on the pond in front of the Castle... a marvel. rental of electric cars to get around the Park as well as vehicles to pedal (for single-seater children and type rosalie in several places for adults).

  • The castle is closed for work, but its grounds are beautiful. On the one hand, a French garden around a large pool which we toured. On the other hand, an English garden with magnificent trees built along a watercourse. At one of the outputs of the Castle, the Dairy Queen, where Marie-Antoinette was drinking milk, in the meantime his Louis XVI back hunting. a little further the national Sheepfold and the farm. In all a very friendly to do around the Castle 8 km circuit.

  • The big plus of Rambouillet: the Castle and its Park, which extends into the forest! A relaxing place never crowded where it is pleasant to walk. I strongly advise to rent a small electric car for the tour of the Park, with children that's really hilarious!

  • I love the castle when it is not in work, walking through the Park away from the tourists. A pure moment of tranquility or market...
