Notre-Dame de Fontaine-Guerard, Radepont
(3.9/5 based on 10+ reviews on the web)
Located in a romantic park on the banks of the Andelle are the ruins of Notre-Dame de Fontaine-Guerard, a Cistercian abbey for nuns established in around 1190. It is also considered one of the most beautiful examples of Anglo-Norman Gothic architecture in France. During your visit, don’t miss the highlights of the site, including the nuns' buildings with their carpentry in the form of the hull of a ship, the church with the arched altar, and the primitive chapel modified in the 15th century.

This site inspires calm and contemplation above all, creating a relaxing getaway during your trip, and is set on the site of the "healing fountain" from which the abbey took its name. • Pretty Abbey of the XIII opened to the visit by its owners (only in the afternoon). Quiet place for meditation. Nice exhibition of paintings on the floor. Worth a look as well as the ruins of a former mill a few hundred metres more far.

  • Beautiful Abbey, which remains, in the end, almost all elements in what concerns the famous Abbey of Jumièges. Leaflet and explanatory panels are the only media to visit. A small booklet is offered for children who suddenly find a real interest to the visit. We feel a real effort of the owners to highlight this beautiful piece of our heritage. And the setting is sublime! A not to be missed out: 500 metres away, the road that starts in front of the entrance to the Abbey, the ruins of spinning Levavasseur, rare example of "industrial Cathedral" of the 19th century and whose remains are very impressive.

  • Visit a little tempered by Bazaar distributed here and there on the site following a theme evening the night before. Unexpected and very interesting exhibition on insects. Otherwise the building is magnificent and the ride is nice.

  • The Abbaye was beautiful, the grounds had many plants. There was a nice kids program, though not 100% accurate because of the recent change in owners. There wasn't any answer key either, but there was a very nice prize!! The person selling tickets was very friendly and answered some of our questions and took our suggestions. The architecture was also very nice, but the main thing was the grounds, including the river passing right next to it and the Fontaine Guerard! Definitely recommended!
