Purcaraccia, Quenza

4.6
#8 of 14 in Nature in Corse-du-Sud
For an unforgettable adventure, visit Purcaraccia, a canyon with fun rock and water slides and emerald green pools. Your older children will love sliding down the rockslides with water flowing down into pools. Two waterfalls are on either side of the rockslides, one at a height of 40 m (130 ft) and the other at 8 m (26 ft). The walk to get to the creek takes about an hour via the narrow and often steep footpath, so this can be a difficult trudge for very young children, elderly folks, or people with physical disabilities. Due to the interesting landscape and aura of adventure, this is a popular place for tourists.

Amid granite rocks heated by the sun, many basins or natural pools carved into the rock provide swimming opportunities if you're brave--the water is a cool 14 C (57 F). Getting to the pools is an adventure itself; a path leads into the brush with grand views of the imposing Bavella Needles. There's a giant vertical rock wall on the right side above you where you'll cross the stream and climb up on the opposite side to reach the first pool. The steep path leads to a sequence of pools and slides creating a dramatic landscape. • The Ballad is worth it but as it is very badly indicated it is easy to get lost and make detours. Besides I don't think that there's really any official trail... This we so did borrow dangerous passages which, I think, could have been avoided with a markup. But in the end the décor is really beautiful, there are a series of natural pools and waterfalls.

  • Actually water is very beautiful, waterfalls and slides also... but absolutely no markup, sign or indication we find ourselves quickly stuck in dangerous places. Go well equipped

  • If the bottom of the river is relatively accessible to all, the top of the River to the waterfall requires to be rather good Walker because the path was not easy especially for children! The waterfall is still worth a look and swimming is nice when the Sun is there.

  • I've been two times on that beautyfull place! 👍👍
  • Getting to the pools is sometimes dangerous so you might want to consider going with a guide (it's doable without) but it is so worth it!!! Beautiful.
  • Nice waterfall.
  • Great place ... to achieve the natural pools it takes an hour and a half. Be careful because the trail is little reported. Council to get to the bottom of the canyon while standing on the right of the river. MUST SEE

  • A small path leads to several pools and waterfalls that are really worth the peek. One of the most beautiful corners of Corsica for swimming in the river!
