La Tour Cesar, Provins

Categories: Historic Sites, Landmarks, Tourist Spots
Inspirock Rating:
4.1/5 based on 320+ reviews on the web
Built on a rocky edge at the beginning of the 12th century, La Tour Cesar protects the former Earl’s Palace and dominates the valley. The building itself gives you a glimpse of the everyday life at the tower eight centuries ago, and the view from the top offers an enchanting landscape view. Be warned that climbing the stairs is no short task, and the passageway can become quite narrow.

In addition, La Tour Cesar is a strong symbol of power for the Earls of Champagne. The keep’s highly complex layout gives it a unique and colossal appearance, making it one of the most original stately dwellings of its time. It used to be a watchtower, a prison, a bell tower, and a place of military retreat.
