La Tour Cesar, Provins

4.1
#1 of 13 in Things to do in Provins
Built on a rocky edge at the beginning of the 12th century, La Tour Cesar protects the former Earl’s Palace and dominates the valley. The building itself gives you a glimpse of the everyday life at the tower eight centuries ago, and the view from the top offers an enchanting landscape view. Be warned that climbing the stairs is no short task, and the passageway can become quite narrow.

In addition, La Tour Cesar is a strong symbol of power for the Earls of Champagne. The keep’s highly complex layout gives it a unique and colossal appearance, making it one of the most original stately dwellings of its time. It used to be a watchtower, a prison, a bell tower, and a place of military retreat. Start your trip to Provins by creating a personalized itinerary on Inspirock.

  • The tower is worthwhile, is well-kept and the sights of the city are very good, price €4.5 seems a little excessive, if you go to province worth that serves you a card of visits, three save paste

  • during our visit to the medieval city the tour César was on the program. No disappointment: beautiful view of the city and the surroundings. Great bells.

  • Must be mounted at the top of the Tower (quite narrow stairs for the last leg) to admire the frame and the bells. The rest is of little interest.

  • An absolutely interesting historical experience. This tower is the symbol of Provins and worths a visit, at least to appreciate the wonderful panorama from the tower top! In my opinion, more informative panels about history and architecture inside the tower, could result in a more complete visiting experience.
  • Very beautiful landmark from afar. Once there, you go up the stairs and get hit with a steep fee to climb the tower.
  • One of the most famous monument in the Proven. It has never used for defending purposes but as a jail and a governer office. The stuff selling tickets is very friendly and there are no lines ( even no people ). The best view on the city is there.
  • Provins and the tour Cesar are a very beautiful place to visit.
  • I'm sure this is interesting to see in the summer time but dont bother going in the winter. The tourist locations in the old city are only open from 2pm to 5pm. Makes me wonder why they even bother.
