La Tour Cesar, Provins

4.2
#1 of 13 in Things to do in Provins
Built on a rocky edge at the beginning of the 12th century, La Tour Cesar protects the former Earl’s Palace and dominates the valley. The building itself gives you a glimpse of the everyday life at the tower eight centuries ago, and the view from the top offers an enchanting landscape view. Be warned that climbing the stairs is no short task, and the passageway can become quite narrow.

In addition, La Tour Cesar is a strong symbol of power for the Earls of Champagne. The keep’s highly complex layout gives it a unique and colossal appearance, making it one of the most original stately dwellings of its time. It used to be a watchtower, a prison, a bell tower, and a place of military retreat. Start your trip to Provins by creating a personalized itinerary on Inspirock.

  • At the heart of the city of provins, this building is very impressive because very imposing in size. It is very interesting to get everything up, because one can enjoy a panoramic view of 360 degrees in the city.

  • A tour of the middle age in a relatively well-preserved State. With the city walls, the lower room of the tithe barn and the collegiate church saint Quiriace, the tower is part of the monuments that allow us to see this town almost ten centuries before.

  • I went to this tower without any expectations, but once inside I drove to another era with its narrow alleyways and steep stairs. It also has a nice view of the Citadel. At the top there is a bell tower that you can visit, as well as some rooms. All stone and wood. If what you want is to feel a historical place, the tour Cesar will serve.

  • Great tower to visit and get some historical experience. Watch your head! Stairs and path ways have not been expanded since the tower was built, very cool to experience. As a reward you are offered a beautiful view of Provins when you reach the top. Time your visit right and be there for the hourly bell ringing.
  • It's really awesome to visit especially if you're there for one of THE medieaval festivals (one around Christmas and one in Summer, not to be missed for anything in the world). It's a bit cramped thought as I suspect that the french from yore were of hobbit descent. Do keep that in mind if you're from one of those tall or wide races such as elves, trolls, ogres, orcs... dwarfs should be fine. Not very claustrophobic but might be a little ? Still, has a few rather wide spaces inside such as the main hall or the rampart. Entrence was around 5€ for me. It might be quite crowded if you're there during some event especially during one of the medieval fares. I HIGHLY recommend you go there ASAP preferably just before noon or in the morning to have it all to yourselves. ;)
  • Amazing structure in a very beautiful village. Must visit provins!
  • A nice medieval tower. It has a panoramic view of the city, been there twice and i think its worth it.
  • It's worth seeing this place, the old medieval city. I will go again there, it's calm place to spend a day out if busy life routine.
