La Tour Cesar, Provins

4.1
#1 of 10 in Things to do in Provins
Built on a rocky edge at the beginning of the 12th century, La Tour Cesar protects the former Earl’s Palace and dominates the valley. The building itself gives you a glimpse of the everyday life at the tower eight centuries ago, and the view from the top offers an enchanting landscape view. Be warned that climbing the stairs is no short task, and the passageway can become quite narrow.

In addition, La Tour Cesar is a strong symbol of power for the Earls of Champagne. The keep’s highly complex layout gives it a unique and colossal appearance, making it one of the most original stately dwellings of its time. It used to be a watchtower, a prison, a bell tower, and a place of military retreat. Great view of the Valley of Provins. Not to be missed. Worth the drive. The stairs to mounted in the bell tower are very close.

A good time spent in this nice monument from the era of the middle ages with the added bonus of a very beautiful panorama of the city of Provins. Plus, this remains a very quiet since visiting it is not crowded with people.

An absolutely interesting historical experience. This tower is the symbol of Provins and worths a visit, at least to appreciate the wonderful panorama from the tower top! In my opinion, more informative panels about history and architecture inside the tower, could result in a more complete visiting experience.

One of the most famous monument in the Proven. It has never used for defending purposes but as a jail and a governer office. The stuff selling tickets is very friendly and there are no lines ( even no people ). The best view on the city is there.

I'm sure this is interesting to see in the summer time but dont bother going in the winter. The tourist locations in the old city are only open from 2pm to 5pm. Makes me wonder why they even bother.

Great views on the area. Great efforts made for some historical comprehension of the place. No need to be claustrophobic if you want to go up in the tower. But really, just do it. :)
