See a river emerge from the ground at La Fontaine de Vaucluse, part of a medieval village in Plateau de Vaucluse, 25 km (15.5 mi) east of Avignon. At the base of high, rocky cliffs, a deep pool of water is actually the source of the Sorgue river that springs from the land beneath it. Several meters away, watch those still waters turn into whitewater rapids that crash down over black rocks. La Fontaine de Vaucluse is just one of the many highlights you can arrange to see using our world travel planner, Fontaine de Vaucluse Edition.

  • This is the site that must go. If possible twice in times of drought to see the low source and winter where there the show is guaranteed. Many merchants nice and original. The parking lot well paid and far away.

  • Very pretty landscapes, we climb the barriers we couldn't see anything, and we were able to bring closer us to the abyss! I would have liked to see the highest level but it was already very beautiful to see! However as soon as you arrive in the city you don't have the choice to pay 4 euros can however long stay you! Information for motorcyclists the car park entrance is free for you!

  • The shady but slightly sloping path leads to this impressive chasm dug by the water. Maybe lack of explanations, but rather the nature is beautiful. A nice ride even if there is a little too many glaciers and other stands of memories along the way for my taste. We have a picnic at the edge of the water.
