It caters to about 800,000 tourists every year. It has stretches of 1,969,000 ft. (600,200 m) of marked pedestrian tracks. The park is rich in flora and fauna. A huge variety of species can be found here. There are holm oak trees, Mediterranean olive trees, firs, rhododendrons spruces, Swiss pine trees. Mercantour National Park is has about 2,000 species of flowering plants, and rare ones at that, such as edelweiss and martagon lily, houseleek, moss campion, and the likes. Chamois and marmots can be frequently spotted. The ermine, ibex and the mouflon is rarer and not visible easily. Wildlife consists of Red Deer and Roe Deer in the shallow grass areas. Where to stay in Aix-en-Provence

To explore the old town's shops, markets, and bookstores on foot, stay at one of the city's centrally located hotels. Just a short drive from this busy central area are a selection of luxurious villas, surrounded by formal gardens and private swimming pools. Though rather expensive, these elegant mansions provide a convenient base from which to explore the cultured area surrounding the city. For a cheaper alternative, look for private inns and B&Bs on the edge of town.
