  • I ask to enter the concourse room - very cold, very martial - it makes me understand very clearly that I am not welcome... no time to lose with me obviously, as there is, it's the pretext, a "big performance" this day r there, according to the expression used. In fact a few lawyers come take an oath... In short: repressed, unceremoniously. I just visualize the place of questioning of Joan of Arc... I have a sinking feeling of having been repressed by angloys swash of the middle age bad mood. The city of Poitiers should invest for this person, in courses of etiquette. The rigor in the "custody" of the place does not prohibit the courtesy. I didn't insist, but I will return with the appropriate legal arsenal again.

  • Great place to who knows the courts, and another room concourse. The room is huge, exposed beams, it's a building out of the ordinary to see!

  • The Palais de Justice was closed when we visited Poitiers. Historically, this is the location where, in 1429, Joan of Arc was examined by the council of clergy.  more »

  • Before becoming the courthouse, the medieval palace was the Palace of the Dukes of Aquitaine. He spent a few years in the royal domain by the marriage of Eleanor of Aquitaine with the King of France Louis 7 in 1136. But their divorce and remarriage of Eleanor with Henri de Plantagenet (future Henri 2 of England) did spend in the English camp. When Eleanor allied with his sons against their father Henri 2 in 1173, the population supports the King of France Philippe Auguste. The region enters the royal Capetian définivement ainssi as the Castle domain.

  • Make a visit to the monumental room concourse. The size of the hearths of fireplaces and vaulted height are prodigious. Emerge. Then bypass the 'block' of houses and shops around the Palace by the left (rue Gambetta, pedestrian). 1st Street which will be on your left (rue des Cordeliers) will make you spend on medieval arrears of the Palace, an ancient fortress converted a lot of times... You will then arrive naturally Place Charles De Gaulle to visit our great lady.
