Pointe Saint Mathieu, Plougonvelin
(4.4/5 based on 400+ reviews on the web)
Overlooking the coast connecting the Bay of Brest to the Atlantic, Pointe Saint Mathieu has dramatic views and quaint buildings. Flanked by 20 m (65 ft) high cliffs and close to the edge of the cliff stands the semaphore that regulates boats on the sea. You can climb to the top of the lighthouse behind it for sensational views. The ruins from the medieval Abbaye de St-Mathieu are impressive with a museum recalling the monastery’s rich past. Close by, the 19th century fort was recently transformed into a moving cenotaph to commemorate the sailors who died at sea. Put Pointe Saint Mathieu into our Plougonvelin tour planner and find out what's close by, where to stay, and where to head next.

  • "St. Matthew rush" is a great for strolling. A place that is still wild, nature dominates!

  • A small Grand place, which blends lighthouse, Abbey, memorial, Garden, Chapel, etc... not to be missed.

  • Invigorating walk on the GR 34, exceptional views over the sea and more if time allows. Site to visit at the end of the world for a change of scenery.

  • The best thing was the view and location, but inside we had a lot of flies which they did not bother with. The food portions are small and did not satisfy my appetite. The staff was very nice though. Wifi was very very slow.
  • Rating for Bistro 1954: the service was horrible! hope the hotel is better than the service at that bistro.
  • Super! The view, the location, the food. Fantastic ! An absolute must :-)!
  • We stayed in another nearby hotel I think owned by the same family. We used the restaurant in this hotel and found the starter and desserts just fine but the main ( a chicken dish was undercooked so was returned) We were asked if we wanted coffee at the end but all that arrived was the bill, with no reduction for the chicken dish which had been whipped away by the chef when he learned of our complaint. We waited 15 - 20 minutes for the coffee and then went to the reception to complain as none of the waiters came over to help. We were offered a €16 discount off the bill!!!! I do not recommend this restaurant.
