Overlooking the coast connecting the Bay of Brest to the Atlantic, pointe Saint-Mathieu has dramatic views and quaint buildings. Flanked by 20 m (65 ft) high cliffs and close to the edge of the cliff stands the semaphore that regulates boats on the sea. You can climb to the top of the lighthouse behind it for sensational views. The ruins from the medieval Abbaye de St-Mathieu are impressive with a museum recalling the monastery’s rich past. Close by, the 19th century fort was recently transformed into a moving cenotaph to commemorate the sailors who died at sea. It is easy to walk through undercover coastal paths. A walk to the weather but it is nice to see a place where the waves come aground against the cliffs during storm. The ruins of the Abbey are worth visiting, especially for their exceptional architecture. The point Lighthouse St. Matthew is to be discovered also with the possibility of climbing the steps to the most seasoned! A walk that I highly recommend to clear her head and think about something else! Always the same element of surprise when I come back to walk there, never bored by all this beauty of nature.

Calming ocean sounds. Lovely views.
Very Nice but the public toilets are the worst in whole france
One of the most beautiful lighthouses of Britain. Free parking and possibility to walk up to the top of the lighthouse (surcharge). Possibility to make a "combo" ticket with the Trezien lighthouse. But do not recommend it. Not worth like this. The view from the lighthouse of Saint Mathieu is beautiful. The entrance to the Lighthouse is a must do!
Very nice place to visit, full of history. The Church and the Abbey ruins show the size that was this place. The lighthouse can be visited and definitely worth a visit with a person at the top of the lighthouse which explains the operation and the purpose of it. In addition this person is very nice and perfectly knows his subject. Thank you.
