Castillet, Perpignan

Historic Site Landmark
Castillet was formerly the gate of the city and then a prison. Now it's a historic monument where you can explore the Catalan Museum of Arts and Popular Traditions. The building is known for its variation on military architecture, featuring turrets, crowning battlements, and Moorish-style consoles. The structure was built as a strong defensive castle, but over time it also has served as a prison and a public building. Alterations include the addition of statuary and the removal of certain defensive components, such as the drawbridge. However, you can still see the battlements, barred windows, and domed watchtower. Our Perpignan tourist route planner makes visiting Castillet and other Perpignan attractions simple, and helps you make a travel plan personal to you.

  • Really well worth a visit. Make sure you see the sights from the top. 142 steps tho! Time is required to ensure you see everything in the galleries.  more »
  • Worth the visit for the view from the top, it's only €2 and there's a museum inside with various things in but the best thing is the view, you need to be able to cope with steep stairs but it's worth ...  more »
  • Formidable building which dominates the area. Offers great views for those willing to trek up the steps to the top. Can be quite crowded as it was the day we visited. 1690  more »

  • Good selection of films in original language
  • Cozy multi-cinema for watching indie Euro films. Bring a sweater.
  • Best movie theater in town, for indie movies and original language titles.
  • Films en VO
  • A cinema which became my place of rendezvous for a little less high-profile movies and VO, thanks to a program worthy of the great Parisian multiplexes. Rooms are on a human scale, not too excessive prices, and the staff is nice. A small flat for soundproofing of the rooms which is to review, but otherwise it's all good. Thank you and long live the Castillet!
