Castillet, Perpignan

(3.8/5 based on 320 reviews on the web)
Castillet was formerly the gate of the city and then a prison. Now it's a historic monument where you can explore the Catalan Museum of Arts and Popular Traditions. The building is known for its variation on military architecture, featuring turrets, crowning battlements, and Moorish-style consoles. The structure was built as a strong defensive castle, but over time it also has served as a prison and a public building. Alterations include the addition of statuary and the removal of certain defensive components, such as the drawbridge. However, you can still see the battlements, barred windows, and domed watchtower. Our Perpignan tourist route planner makes visiting Castillet and other Perpignan attractions simple, and helps you make a travel plan personal to you.

  • 2 euro entrance fee...160 steps to top...good views across Perpignan...good for local history buffs...good start point to explore old town
  • The Castillet is almost the only thing that remains of the wall of Perpignan. It was the gateway to the North to the walled enclosure. For a long period it was used as prison. It is not only beautiful but is a piece of the history of the city.

  • No crec que valga la pena entrar-hi.
  • hi ha penjada la senyera
  • Pretty lame and shady town. Nothing really to see and it looks like it was just bombed ..many streets are in a bad shape. Do not waste your time.
  • Witness to the rich history of the city and remains of the fortifications destroyed in the name of modernism in the 19th century.
