Trip Planner: Europe / France / Nouvelle-Aquitaine / Gironde / Pauillac / Wineries / Chateau Pontet-Canet
Tour Chateau Pontet-Canet to see the estate and sample its eponymous organic red wine. The wines here are produced with old-fashioned flair: harvesting is done by hand, and after sorting, the grapes are moved into the estate's gravity-fed cellars for crushing. Fermentation takes place in a mixture of concrete and stainless-steel vats. Wines are aged for 16-20 months in up to 60 percent new oak barrels. Put Chateau Pontet-Canet and other Pauillac attractions into our Pauillac trip itinerary maker, and watch your holiday take shape.

This was the best visit we did in Bordeaux with a very comprehensive tour of the vineyards and wine making facility on a very cold and wet day. The hospitality was superb and the wine we tasted at the... more »
Visite extrêmement intéressante d'un des fleurons de la viticulture en bio-dynamie du Médoc. Vins de qualité supérieure, à acheter pour les grandes occasions ou vous faire plaisir, mais bon le prix n'... more »Extremely interesting visit from one of the jewels of the biodynamics of the Médoc wine. Wines of superior, to buy for a special occasion or treat yourself, but good quality price is obviously not given... But hey, to taste absolutely if the opportunity arises. The area is beautiful and the ground is done with horses and donkeys. More a part of wines are raised in huge amphorae (short missing only Bacchus at their side...!)! A wine dream!
Pauillac. Membre de Biodyvin. Attention aux prix.
If you make an appointment in advance, you'll be able to get a tour in English to check out Pontet Canet. Chateau Pontet Canet is classified as part of Fifth Growth in the Bordeaux Wine Classification of 1855 (Pauillac's appellation), but Pontet Canet is at times better than the other wineries that's classified first, second, or third. Today's tour (Sept 2014) included a tasting of their 2007's vintage and a view around their vineyard, VAT, Cellar, and tasting room. The best part is that the tour goes in depth about the history and their operational point of view of Pontet Canet. Plus, the tour and tasting is free! Pontet Canet also invented (patent pending) on their new VAT, which reminds of Big Hero 6 from Disney! Pontet Canet's wine is a bit pricey and there's a reason why....certified organic and biodynamic! Overall, Pontet Canet is a must stop to check out how the wineries are changing their ways back to biodynamic with a lighter touch to the vines. Perhaps it's because of Pontet Canet's drive is the reason why they recently lost their AOC status for their second label. Or perhaps, it's wine politic? Who knows and it's quite unfortunate! Regardless of status, I was thoroughly impressed by their passion, keep up the good work Pontet Canet!
Pierre BeaussantExcellent wines but quality of the corks of the deplorable 2002 vintage. On 12 open bottles, 11 caps broken. Following a mail and mail addressed to Mr. Tesseron, they say it is a problem of corkscrew or preservation of wines while none of my other wines have such problems. Disappointing on the part of an area that prides itself on an excellent reputation... P. Beaussant
Gerhard RainalterExcellent wines, professional leadership, fantastic Chateau, a little personal and family would be even more cool.
