  • Although little remains of the times of Enrique IV, almost all of the above is of the 19TH century, it is worth travelling in time and history here, with a very complete guided and real life of the King and the Palace where he was born.

  • The Castle has been very well renovated outdoor, despite its modest size, worth a visit, the architecture is sober enough, the great view of the mountains and the lowlands.

  • Located overlooking the gave de Pau, this castle has seen "good" King Henri IV in his turtle shell. But before that, he also served as a fortress to the Viscounts of Béarn (from the 11th to the 14th century), Gaston Fébus and to the installation of the Court of Navarre from 1512. But this does not stop its history, because the Castle has received several restorations on the part of its occupants of which the most important is that of King Louis-Philippe (1773-1850). The Castle has also hosted the Emperor Napoleon III and his wife Eugenie and Queen Isabelle II of Spain. Today, it is a national museum dedicated to King Henri IV. The Castle has kept elements witnesses of each of the periods of its history, as the many towers: Mazeres (XIe s.), Montauser and SAS (12th century), Gaston Fébus (14th s.), Louis-Philippe and Napoleon III (19th c.). They are the grandparents of Henri IV (Henri of Albret, and Marguerite of Navarre) who made the beautiful garden on the terrace exposed to the South of the Castle, as evidenced also by their initials H and M in arrangements floral as well as several parts of the castle walls. A must visit during a visit to Pau.

  • Wonderful castle with night exhibition during summer
  • Awesome place
  • Wonderful Castle view on the chain of the Pyrenees. Too bad the guide was in a hurry visit guided clear. I am reassured by the comment of Michel, who fell on a passionate guide. I recommend.
