Stravinsky Fountain, Paris
(4/5 based on 120+ reviews on the web)
A whimsical public fountain ornamented with 16 works of sculpture, plus moving and spraying water representing the works of composer Igor Stravinsky, Stravinsky Fountain was created in 1983 by sculptors Jean Tinguely and Niki de Saint Phalle. The fountain is a shallow basin of 580 sq m (6,243 sq ft) above the Institut de Recherche et Coordination Acoustique/Musique, an organization devoted to promoting modern music and musicology. Because of the offices and rooms below, the fountain was designed to be as lightweight as possible, with very shallow water, a bottom of stainless steel, and sculptures composed of plastic and other light materials. • Paris is mostly a serious place. This fountain is funny, fun and calls attention. In it, there are some colorful pieces of art (some of them even spray water). Good to see some colors in such a gray/ ...  more »
  • The Stravinsky fountain is one of the modern works of art more marvelous, surreal and original of Le Marais. It is adorned with 16 in movement and by sprinkling water sculptures that represent the work of the fantastic composer Igor Stravinsky. It was created in 1983 by the sculptors Jean Tinguely and Niki de Saint Phalle, is located in the Stravinsky square just in front of the Centre Pompidou. Street performers, skaters and tourists that form a unique cultural landscape are concentrated next to it. We really enjoyed much of our visit to the source and all the artistic district in general.

  • Read about this unique funky fountain online and since we were in the area, we decided to visit as well. However, our visit was a total disappointment, the fountain was completely dry and drained out....  more »

  • This is great little spot to relax and take in some public art. The fountain is full of photo opportunities, and has a real "pick me up" type vibe to it with all the bright colours and uniquely designed statues. It's a great family hangout area also, with plenty of fun and games for children and parents.
  • easy to miss this historic fountain amidst the chaos. great place to relax for a bit.
  • Busy but pleasant square surrounding the fountains themselves, which are interesting visually. Bordered by a number of cafés and patisseries, with outdoor seating.
  • Interesting fountain, nice square with cafes. Don't love the cafes that much, I wish they were a little cuter or nicer.
  • Worth popping over for a brief sit if you are in the area, don't go out of your way though.
