Stravinsky Fountain, Paris

(4/5 based on 130+ reviews on the web)
A whimsical public fountain ornamented with 16 works of sculpture, plus moving and spraying water representing the works of composer Igor Stravinsky, Stravinsky Fountain was created in 1983 by sculptors Jean Tinguely and Niki de Saint Phalle. The fountain is a shallow basin of 580 sq m (6,243 sq ft) above the Institut de Recherche et Coordination Acoustique/Musique, an organization devoted to promoting modern music and musicology. Because of the offices and rooms below, the fountain was designed to be as lightweight as possible, with very shallow water, a bottom of stainless steel, and sculptures composed of plastic and other light materials. • A picturesque square in front of the Centre Pompidou, by chance caught my attention by sculptures in the source.

  • We like it or not! Well located next to Beaubourg this fountain offers various sculptures animated by water jets. Watch in detail because they are special. Recommended for sunny days and enjoy to have a drink or to eat as many terraces of bars and restaurants lining this unusual fountain.

  • This is great little spot to relax and take in some public art. The fountain is full of photo opportunities, and has a real "pick me up" type vibe to it with all the bright colours and uniquely designed statues. It's a great family hangout area also, with plenty of fun and games for children and parents.
  • easy to miss this historic fountain amidst the chaos. great place to relax for a bit.
  • Busy but pleasant square surrounding the fountains themselves, which are interesting visually. Bordered by a number of cafés and patisseries, with outdoor seating.
  • Interesting fountain, nice square with cafes. Don't love the cafes that much, I wish they were a little cuter or nicer.
  • Worth popping over for a brief sit if you are in the area, don't go out of your way though.
