  • This square is located right next to Notre Dame, which we can observe the stained glass windows of the nave and the transept in the unique Flamboyant Gothic style. One can also admire the superb bedside very airy Gothic style Cathedral. The fountain of the Virgin is located behind Notre Dame. As for the statue of Jean Paul II is located on the South of the garden. Of the flower beds, lawns and yew cut cone, decorate this square. Other remarkable species populate this square as the chestnut trees, tamarisk, blue spruce, tree honey and oak of Hungary. There are a lot of people usually in this square, but this morning it's calm before the arrival of tourists. We can sit under the many shades of the cherry trees of the Japan and enjoy the traffic on the narrow arm of the Seine. Many boats are already circulating on the river. I always come back with pleasure in this square especially in the beautiful season.

  • A nice place to spend sometime after all day walking. The roses in that time were blooming. Took us hours just in the sit-and-stroll mood within the park.  more »
  • I'm going to Paris whenever I can. As had been there for the last time in 2015 was two years. As always go to Notre Dame, a visit essential. Then I go to rest in this square. A nice place, with beautiful trees and beautiful view. In addition there is the statue of the Saint John Paul II to be appreciated.

  • Wonderful place for photos. Everything picture you take will turn out amazing. I think they also have festivals in this square which look really interesting.
  • The square in front of Notre Dame is by crowded with humans and pigeons, but walk through the gate on the right hand side and enjoy the much quieter garden and more great views of the cathedral.
  • Very nice. Wasn't able to get here until about 12pm, when they turned the lights out. Still an incredible sight to see
  • Just a big square for people to queue up while they wait to get into the cathedral. No ice cream vans etc so a bit boring really?
  • Great square of Notre Dame, perfect tree, gardens, public space. Lots of parisiense with childs go there. Right next to the pintoresque bridge that connects the two islands

Where to stay in Paris

Each of the city’s 20 arrondissements, or districts, has a personality all its own. If you prefer high-end accommodations and to be in the middle of the action, look for lodging in the 1st through the 4th arrondissements. For more affordable lodging and access to major metro lines, try the 12th. The Oberkampf area of the 11th arrondissement has an edgier, more hip vibe. For easy access to tourist sites,  the 16th is within a stone’s throw of the Arc de Triomph and the Eiffel Tower, and the 17th is within walking distance to the Champs-Elysées. Avoid the 18th, 19th, and 20th, because these can be dangerous, especially if you’re not familiar with the city.
