Rue de Grenelle, Paris

(45 reviews on the web)
Landmark
Rue de Grenelle passes through the neighborhoods of St.-Germain-des-Prés , St.-Thomas d'Aquin, district Invalides, and district Gros Caillou. It got its name from a practical purpose--it linked the city to the former village of Grenelle. In many ways, this is a typical Parisian street, with restaurants, cafes, shops, and even an open food market. However, you can find some special spots here: No. 38 is the shop of famed shoemaker Christian Louboutin, and at No. 129 you will find the Hôtel des Invalides, which houses the army museum. • The street of Grenelle, is in sound track, quite old. As in the 14th century, it was a path that goes by many names as path to the cows or the gallows path, etc. Indeed, he linked the Paris of walls of Philippe Auguste and Charles V in 1383, with little inhabited areas occupied by the current district of Grenelle in the 15th arrondissement. Grenelle was then a village surrounded by fields and marshes along the Seine. As the extension of Paris, the path becomes a passable Street, at the end of the 17th and during the 18 th century where it takes the name of Grenelle Saint Germain Street. Many Mansions which still exist today, date from this period of the 17 and 18th centuries where rich families line large land out of the highly polluted urban Paris. The street then continues as the buildings to the West. She walked past the Hotel des Invalides, which is built in this period in 1674 under Louis XIV. You can visit the building and gardens and also the Museum of the army. Walleye Dome is located on the back. The whole is a masterpiece of french classical style to the past, towards the West, it is at present still fields to the olericulture and a port of the Seine to "Beaugrenelle" by continuing its extension to the West, the street becomes roadway until the field of Mars (dedicated to the God of war) then fields of manoeuvre after the creation of the Military Academy in 1765. His journey ends there. It then falls within the wall farmers generals created around Paris in 1760 which goes through the boulevard grenelle. During the Second Empire and the extension of Paris to neighboring communities, in 1860, the village of Grenelle will be integrated in the new 15 district. The street of Grenelle, which passes through a small part of the 6 th and especially the 7 district, is not at all concerned by the works of Haussmann. Finally, after completing the whole Street, Eiffel Tower, we see leading on the field of Mars by the Belgrade Street that extended, deserves a detour to see Paris from above through the street at its beginning, from the street of the Dragon and the street of Sevres, we find remarkable sites like the Hotel de Bérulle to no. 15 which dates from 1775 in the classic style. At no. 57 is the great fountain of the four season, work of massive classic architecture, with pediment and ionic columns, which dates back to 1745, built in honor of Louis XV. This fountain was receiving at the time by a canal, the waters of Rungis small river in Paris, to give water to the neighborhood that was devoid. Its name comes from what she has low reliefs with statues representing the 4 seasons. The Maillol Museum at no. 61 in the Hotel Bouchardon. It presents works of Aristide Maillol painter and sculptor of the 20th century, and also works of painters with temporary exhibitions. Continuing westward, looks at the mansion of Galliffet to no. 73 accessible by a passage, which hosts the Italian Cultural Institute. This building was built in 1792 is a small masterpiece of classic with side garden, a giant order columns fairly successful. Then follow specific Hotels you notice the facades of style, but who do not visit. Similarly to the No. 79, the Hotel d ' Estrées, built in 1713, is the residence of the Ambassador of Russia since 1863. There is the quite simple style building around the Court of honor U shaped, visible behind the large gate in a half circle. Tsar Alexander stayed during the universal exhibition of 1867 and has honored the start of work of the Pont Alexandre III under Napoleon III. Always immersed in the classic style, the monumental gates in an arc turns on this street. The Hotel of Avaray at no. 85 is property of the Netherlands and is used for receptions. All of these Hotels have gardens on the back. But unfortunately, apart from during the heritage days, they are not visited the Ministry of the public service is the Hotel de Rothelin Charolais at no. 101, with a front pediment and columns dating from 1703 to no. 103 can distract themselves a certain saturation of classic style admiring the Tower of the Telegraph "Chappe" built in 1841 , which overcomes the...

  • "My name is Rene. Me fifty-four years. And for twenty years I have been working at number seven Porter on street of Grenelle, a beautiful mansion with a courtyard and a garden. "thus begins the great novel" the elegance of the Hedgehog "by Muriel Barbery. To find this mythical "house number seven" my friends and I made a decent hook.
