Pont-Neuf, Paris

4.4
Despite its name, Pont-Neuf is the oldest standing bridge across the river Seine in Paris. This medieval bridge has two separate spans: one with five arches joining the left bank to the Île de la Cité, and the other with seven spans joining the island to the right bank. Be sure to note the turrets, shaped like half-moons, that give the arches their characteristic appearance. Then look for grotesque masks called "mascarons" that decorate the molding cornice on each side of the bridge. • The bridge is beautiful, full of history, and has a wonderful view of the back of Notre Dame with the Seine at your side ... picture postcard.

  • Very good view at night. We have a lot of things to see around the place. Could be a nice meeting point as they have a few seats at the bank of Seine. Near the to main metro station Chatelet. Hence easily accessible from any part of city
  • Catch a boat and explore the river Seine. Boats leave from here often. If you want to add a lock to a 'bridge' over the Seine, this is the place to do it. There are even vendors present to sell you the lock. The three fences bordering the river are covered with locks. I'm not sure how often they're cut off.
  • I absolutely love this bridge. Apparently the first bridge in Paris. So the king said he will make a bridge. All the politicians laughed and said it is impossible. When he completed the bridge he has their laughing faces carved onto stone. Important lesson "First they ignore you, then they laugh at you, then they fight you, then you win." - Mahatma Gandhi.
  • It's a bridge... But we did get to see all the locks people put on the fence and some street performances on the way...there's cool little nocks to sit in to visit or whatever... We also got to experience/watch the people with the cups and ball they move around as the try to scam people... It was cool to see just like on the movies... Worth a quick stop for 10-15 mins and to say you went... enjoy
  • The bridge offers great panoramic views of the city of Paris along the Seine and is a really nice walk. It’s open 24/7 and is really beautiful at any time of the day, especially during sunrise or sunset when the sun reflects against the Paris skyline or at night when the skyline is all lit up. Its proximity to all the main attractions of the city of Paris, like the cathedral of Norte Dame, makes it a prime location for those spending time in the city. Though it’s nice for a leisurely walk, when the weather gets warmer, the walkway may get packed with people, as it is shared between walkers and cyclers, so it is not that enjoyable and favorable for a walk during that time. In the same way, the bridge can get fairly cold during the winter and the beginning of spring. All in all, the bridge is absolutely stunning, and is still a great opportunity for photos!
