Passage Jouffroy, Paris

4.4
#22 of 271 in Shopping in Paris
Built in 1845 to capitalize on the popularity of the older Passage des Panoramas, Passage Jouffroy is a glass-and-iron covered walkway filled with exclusive shops. It extends 140 m (460 ft) through the city, and was quite a feat for its day. It was the first Parisian passage built entirely of metal and glass and heated through the floor. Many consider this a precursor to modern shopping malls. To visit Passage Jouffroy on your holiday in Paris, and find out what else Paris has to offer, use our Paris family vacation planner.

To discover Paris otherwise but for my taste it is, with the passage Choiseul (among others) one of the passages more tourist exit of the Grevin Museum has certainly a lot I prefer the passage of Panoramas that I find more authentic and more quiet but still worth a visit

Both passages are fun to walk through. There were many different shops and several restaurants (all very busy) with a variety of prices to suit everyone. It is a very busy (commercial wise) area. I en...  more »

When l borrowed its pretty Parisian passages... meet you bathed in the 19th century very quickly, canopies, advertising signs, lights and shops fronts are kept in the style of the time... the small shops of books, galleries of paintings, toys... and as long as you have made the Museum Gervin... the charm operates. To wander without hesitation!

Lovely French architecture. The thrill of these passages is that you never know what you will find in them.

Multiple shopping stores but expect an early closing and you wouldn't go there shopping unless u happen to be passing by

Where to stay in Paris

Each of the city’s 20 arrondissements, or districts, has a personality all its own. If you prefer high-end accommodations and to be in the middle of the action, look for lodging in the 1st through the 4th arrondissements. For more affordable lodging and access to major metro lines, try the 12th. The Oberkampf area of the 11th arrondissement has an edgier, more hip vibe. For easy access to tourist sites,  the 16th is within a stone’s throw of the Arc de Triomph and the Eiffel Tower, and the 17th is within walking distance to the Champs-Elysées. Avoid the 18th, 19th, and 20th, because these can be dangerous, especially if you’re not familiar with the city.
