Paris Military School, Paris

4.4
Paris Military School is a vast complex of buildings housing various military training facilities founded by Louis XV in 1750 to create an academic college for cadet officers from poor families. Not only can you appreciate the historical significance of this site, which produced countless great military leaders, but the statuesque, sprawling architecture is quite impressive as well.

As you explore this site, keep in mind that Napolean Bonaparte walked the same hallways, as he was accepted in 1784 and completed the two-year program in one year. To visit Paris Military School and other attractions in Paris, use our Paris trip planner.

  • Excellent way to pass a couple to three hours. Looks beautiful both inside and out with lots to see. Would be a great place to take the kids.  more »
  • The Ecole Militaire is located southwest of the Champ de Mars, the Eiffel Tower in the 7th arrondissement of Paris. Is a huge complex of buildings that houses the school of training for French military officers. One of the more fomosos students of the École Militaire was Napoleon Bonaparte who participated in 1784.

  • The former cadre School of the army was created on the initiative of Madame de Pompadour, mistress of Louis XV in 1750, which led King to establish this prestigious institution. In this school year studied Napoleon, through 10 years posted here its headquarters. Now here is the current French military Academy, which trains senior military personnel. Unfortunately, now part of the façade repair.

  • Get a view from outside... At night it looks really good with little lights
  • One of my favorites in Paris. Impressive architecture. History, art, culture, and symbol...
  • We walked from the tower down the park to the Ecole Militaire. It is an amazing building and you should walk to the back of it to see the whole building. The back is more impressive than the front. Not a big miss if you don't see it, but once your at the Eiffell tower you might as well take the 15 minute walk.
  • The Ecole Militaire is one of the national landmarks. It is a beautiful building and just walking around it, taking photos, is a majestic experience.
  • Nice place

Where to stay in Paris

Each of the city’s 20 arrondissements, or districts, has a personality all its own. If you prefer high-end accommodations and to be in the middle of the action, look for lodging in the 1st through the 4th arrondissements. For more affordable lodging and access to major metro lines, try the 12th. The Oberkampf area of the 11th arrondissement has an edgier, more hip vibe. For easy access to tourist sites,  the 16th is within a stone’s throw of the Arc de Triomph and the Eiffel Tower, and the 17th is within walking distance to the Champs-Elysées. Avoid the 18th, 19th, and 20th, because these can be dangerous, especially if you’re not familiar with the city.
