Parc de Bagatelle, Paris

4.5
#17 of 49 in Parks in Paris
Situated at the heart of the Bois de Boulogne, Parc de Bagatelle is one of Paris’s four botanical gardens. Created in 1775, the park and its chateau were built in 64 days after a wager between Queen Marie-Antoinette and her brother in-law, the Count of Artois. This site is the perfect place for you to stroll and relax amongst the stressful days of sightseeing. As well as large trees and varied plant life, little bridges, rocks, caves, bodies of water, and artificial waterfalls add to the charm and romantic aspect of the park.

In addition, the 19th century Chinese pagoda is just one of the park’s many curiosities to explore, and you can also admire the magnificent rose garden with 10,000 rose bushes from 1,200 different species. The park regularly hosts exhibitions and events as well as classical music concerts in the summer. Parc de Bagatelle is just one of the many highlights you can arrange to see using our world travel planner, Paris Edition.

Walk photo on Monday 14-08-2017, little world, more ducks and geese in a superb and beautifully maintained Park! A remake in autumn, when the leaves will be falling, and the light will be more shaved... Bravo for maintenance and staff of this park!

We come often, especially in the spring with children and friends. It is better not to arrive too late to not to park too far. Admission is paid in the summer but cheap. The Park is splendid! The beautiful rose garden. Everything is well maintained. The ponds are lovely. Children love watching peacocks hoping the wheel. There is a playground at the bottom left of the Park.

Where to stay in Paris

Each of the city’s 20 arrondissements, or districts, has a personality all its own. If you prefer high-end accommodations and to be in the middle of the action, look for lodging in the 1st through the 4th arrondissements. For more affordable lodging and access to major metro lines, try the 12th. The Oberkampf area of the 11th arrondissement has an edgier, more hip vibe. For easy access to tourist sites,  the 16th is within a stone’s throw of the Arc de Triomph and the Eiffel Tower, and the 17th is within walking distance to the Champs-Elysées. Avoid the 18th, 19th, and 20th, because these can be dangerous, especially if you’re not familiar with the city.
