Palais Garnier, Paris

#1 of 2,601 in Nightlife in France
Theater · Concert / Show
Perhaps one of the most famous and opulent opera houses in the world, Palais Garnier was the setting for the 1910 novel "The Phantom of the Opera,” by Gaston Leroux. When you approach the façade, look up and you'll see the 7.5-m (25-ft) Beaux Arts statue known as L’Harmonie. Today, the opera house primarily produces ballet productions, which you can attend with advance tickets. Admission to an on-site museum, the Bibliothèque-Musée de l'Opéra de Paris (Paris Opera Library-Museum), is included in unaccompanied tours of the opera house building. Be sure to admire the enormous bronze and crystal chandelier in the auditorium. You can dine in the L'Opéra Restaurant. • We were so looking forward to an evening of ballet at the Palais Garnier, but it was cancelled due to the national strikes. We did visit the exterior. What a beautiful opera house. We walked around...  more »
  • Beautiful structure from the outside. Golden statues decorate the top of the building. Unfortunately, I still didn’t have the chance to see a spectacle inside due to limited places.  more »
  • Built in the second half of the 19th century, Palais Garnier is certainly an opulent building and one of the most beautiful and well known . It has been named in honour of the architect who designed.....  more »

  • As an architect trained in modern and contemporary architecture I never had any special interest of visiting this place. I went there because my partner took me and I am grateful! Hands down one of the most amazing man-made spaces I’ve ever been to: this hall has the most amazing proportions!... an amazing stop in one of the most incredible cities in the planet: Paris!
  • Absolutely spectacular! It's worth every Euro spent on visiting this magnificent place. The ticket price will set you back 14 euros and if you want an audio guide then it's another 7 euros. It was like stepping into a time machine taking you back few centuries ago when the elite and affluent could afford finer arts. The majestic grandeur of the opera house is breath taking. The paintings, opera hall, chandeliers, murials, and the obsession with gold paint is impressive.
  • We visited during the day to explore and admire the inside of the building. There are guided tours and audio tours available but we chose to wander at our own pace instead. The grand staircase and grand foyer are both stunning and it's definitely worth attending to view them. Sadly, the auditorium was closed due to technical issues so we didn't get to see that.
  • The most famous Opera house in the world. Spectacular monument with gilded marble and lavish decor. Landmark named after its architect Charles Garnier. The Napoleon Ill style of architecture that was later an inspiration for many Opera houses around the world. Built for Opera performances now is mostly used for ballet, where best performers grace its stage. 1,5 English language tour, very relaxing and enjoyable walk through history of the most famous Opera house in the World. ‘Phantom of the Opera’ musical famous all around the world inspired by Opera Garnier paid tribute to this iconic testament by featuring phantom who lives in Paris Opera. I watched this fabulous show 3 times unfortunately not in Paris Opera. Opera Garnier is glorious architectural masterpiece, timeless French legacy.
  • The most beautiful building (in my opinion) of Paris. Has an amazing story of the phantom of the opera and it’s just breath taking. It have some free plays every week open to the public. If you like this, you will enjoy it very much.
