  • On the death of her husband, the Duchess of Galliera (which had among other things the hotel Matignon) inherited a huge fortune. She decided to build a Museum for his collection of works of art that she wished to bequeath to the city of Paris. In 1886, Jules Grévy and Georges Clemenceau called the Chamber of deputies who adopted a law requiring heads of families who reigned in France and their heirs to leave the territory. Outraged by this Act, but could not return to his donation of the Palace, she decided to renounce the legacy of his collection in Paris. It is located in Genoa. There became the palais Galliera Museum of fashion and costume in 1977. The enclosure of the Palace; with its garden facing the Palais de Tokyo, is splendid (free entry).
