#409 of 2,040 in Things to do in Paris
Located in the Île de la Cité in central Paris, Palais de justice de Paris is built on the site of the former royal palace of Saint Louis, of which the Sainte Chapelle remains, and the justice of the state has been dispensed at this site since medieval times. From the 16th century to the French Revolution, this was the seat of the Parlement de Paris. At Palais de justice de Paris, you can also see the ancient structure of the Conciergerie, a former prison, now a museum, where Marie Antoinette was imprisoned before being executed on the guillotine.

If you’re interested in more history, check out the Chambre Dorée, the place where the revolutionary tribunal pronounced the death sentence on Marie-Antoinette in 1793. See Palais de justice de Paris and all Paris has to offer by arranging your trip with our Paris trip itinerary planning tool .

  • It was originally the seat of the Kings of which retained the wing of the Conciergerie and Sainte Chapelle. In the main building of the Palace of Justice continue to fall, the courts and the police. The courtyard is located at the exit in the days of the French Revolution were condemned to the gallows. Over the weekend, the building closed. Very cute entrance gate.

  • After reading the reviews on TripAdvisor, we feel that certain comments are dedicated to the Concierge. The building is certainly impressive but the architecture of the main façade is austere.

  • Impressive architecture at the heart of the oldest part of Paris. Notre Dame is the obvious draw to Île de la Cité, but this is one of many more things to see here.
  • Just walk by. The main gate is beautiful. It's just a fuew minutes from Notre-Dame.
  • Great views of the street, good service. Drinks were good too.
  • The Palais de justice de Paris is a lovely structure on the Ile de la Cite in the 1e arrndisement in Paris. It is a working courthouse and is located in a really beautiful part of the city. recommended!
  • Nice building

Where to stay in Paris

Each of the city’s 20 arrondissements, or districts, has a personality all its own. If you prefer high-end accommodations and to be in the middle of the action, look for lodging in the 1st through the 4th arrondissements. For more affordable lodging and access to major metro lines, try the 12th. The Oberkampf area of the 11th arrondissement has an edgier, more hip vibe. For easy access to tourist sites,  the 16th is within a stone’s throw of the Arc de Triomph and the Eiffel Tower, and the 17th is within walking distance to the Champs-Elysées. Avoid the 18th, 19th, and 20th, because these can be dangerous, especially if you’re not familiar with the city.
