Landmark Tourist Spot
Located in the Île de la Cité in central Paris, Palais de Justice de Paris is built on the site of the former royal palace of Saint Louis, of which the Sainte Chapelle remains, and the justice of the state has been dispensed at this site since medieval times. From the 16th century to the French Revolution, this was the seat of the Parlement de Paris. At Palais de Justice de Paris, you can also see the ancient structure of the Conciergerie, a former prison, now a museum, where Marie Antoinette was imprisoned before being executed on the guillotine.

If you’re interested in more history, check out the Chambre Dorée, the place where the revolutionary tribunal pronounced the death sentence on Marie-Antoinette in 1793. Choose to start, finish, or center your holiday on a trip to Palais de Justice de Paris by using our Paris trip builder.

  • The Palais de justice is situated in the same precinct as Sainte Chappelle and it's best to combine the visit unless you are are a lawyer or follower of law - then the visit is ok to do separately.  more »
  • Next to the Sainte-Chapelle there is the Palace of Justice. On the boulevard du Palais opens the monumental façade of the building. The right side is la Tour de l'Horloge which dates back to the 14th century.

  • A majestic and beautiful Palace which is next to an another attraction, this totally UNMISSABLE and that overshadows the Palace the Saint Chapelle. An area where the tourist will be dazzled. Upon exiting the Metro Cité, give right away with the Prefecture of Police, after the Palace of Justice, the unforgettable Saint Chapelle and then Notre Dame. Paris is just wonderful.

  • Impressive architecture at the heart of the oldest part of Paris. Notre Dame is the obvious draw to Île de la Cité, but this is one of many more things to see here.
  • Just walk by. The main gate is beautiful. It's just a fuew minutes from Notre-Dame.
  • Great views of the street, good service. Drinks were good too.
  • The Palais de justice de Paris is a lovely structure on the Ile de la Cite in the 1e arrndisement in Paris. It is a working courthouse and is located in a really beautiful part of the city. recommended!
  • Nice building

Where to stay in Paris

Each of the city’s 20 arrondissements, or districts, has a personality all its own. If you prefer high-end accommodations and to be in the middle of the action, look for lodging in the 1st through the 4th arrondissements. For more affordable lodging and access to major metro lines, try the 12th. The Oberkampf area of the 11th arrondissement has an edgier, more hip vibe. For easy access to tourist sites,  the 16th is within a stone’s throw of the Arc de Triomph and the Eiffel Tower, and the 17th is within walking distance to the Champs-Elysées. Avoid the 18th, 19th, and 20th, because these can be dangerous, especially if you’re not familiar with the city.
