Palais de Chaillot, Paris

4.5
#30 of 142 in Museums in Paris
For the Exposition Internationale of 1937, the old Palais du Trocadéro (built about 50 years earlier) was demolished and replaced by Palais de Chaillot. Quotations by Paul Valéry decorate the building, alongside sculptural groups on the attic level by Raymond Delamarre, Carlo Sarrabezolles, and Alfred Bottiau. Admire the eight gilded figures sitting on the Rights of Man terrace, attributed to the sculptors Alexandre Descatoire, Marcel Gimond, Jean Paris dit Pryas, Paul Cornet, Lucien Brasseur, Robert Couturier, Paul Niclausse, and Félix-Alexandre Desruelles. This building houses Musée National de la Marine (naval museum), Musée de l'Homme (ethnology), and Musée National des Monuments Français. It's also famous for hosting the United Nations General Assembly that adopted the Universal Declaration of Human Rights on December 10, 1948. • I saw a video of Adolf Hitler standing at this very spot and suddenly I felt a little bit part of history, not that I want to associate myself with him of all people, but history just became a bit more real when I stood there. Bear in mind I am from South Africa. So I guess this is not the only place many historians would argue that would be of significance to claim "I stood here". I like the presence of the beautiful golden statues
  • Beautiful palace to visit to see great views of the Eiffel. Be careful of the aggressive scammers everywhere though, as always. I’d recommend coming at both day and night to see the Eiffel lit up as well.
  • Absolutely stunning views of the Eiffel Tower. Highly recommend it during the day and even more so at night!!!
  • Perfect place to see the Eiffel Tower lights at night. Very romantic. Just gets very crowded very fast .
  • My mother had a picture moment magical reaction once we turned that one corner off the streets into the Palais de Chaillot & presto! There she was this amazing structure in front of us. Best discovery of the lovely Tower if you wish to surprise someone dear. Magnifique experience!
