  • Lived and painted the Symbolist Gustave Moreau in the converted childhood home. The House converted into the Museum provides a good insight into the life and work of the artist. On the 1st floor leads to the spacious reception rooms in the private rooms of the artist, whose style comes before us today rather cluttered. Top in the 2nd and 3rd floor then Moreau had every moment the room of the Studio, that gives the impression thanks to some easels and paintings that enter. Very atmospheric!

  • Sigmund Freud had a print or copy of Moreau's Oedipus and the Sphinx in his Vienna office and I thought the original would be here. There are drawings of the famous duo, but the original is in New Yor...  more »

  • One of my favorite little museums in the world. I happen to like Moreau very much, but the museum is also a snapshot of a Parisian apartment of a certain time, and I find the studios on the top floors to be inspiring. They are flooded with art and light and for whatever reason being in this space makes me want to do something creative, too.
  • A small museum. If you like Moreau you will love it, if not it is still interesting to see the inside of the building.
  • Gustave Moreau is not for everyone, but if you even just like him, you should visit this museum. It's also interesting because it's the actually atelier where he worked, so you get a real sense of 19th century artistic life - but not la vie bohème. Start at the top of the museum where the most interesting work is and which is also the most interesting space. Be sure to allow yourself plenty of time to see the museum; the guards and other employees are absolute dragons and kicked us out 15 minutes before the stated closing time.
  • Gustav Moreau is one of my favorite artists. When I went there I was able to leaf through the amazing volumes of hand drawn art as well as the building itself , a monument of beauty. It took a few days to see everything and the enormous painting that is being shown. I wish to someday return to this museum. it is truly my favorite.
  • A spectacular staircase, impressive studio space, personal effects make it worth a detour. The walls are covered with mostly unfinished paintings.
