Gustave Moreau is not for everyone, but if you even just like him, you should visit this museum. It's also interesting because it's the actually atelier where he worked, so you get a real sense of 19th century artistic life - but not la vie bohème. Start at the top of the museum where the most interesting work is and which is also the most interesting space. Be sure to allow yourself plenty of time to see the museum; the guards and other employees are absolute dragons and kicked us out 15 minutes before the stated closing time.
Gustav Moreau is one of my favorite artists. When I went there I was able to leaf through the amazing volumes of hand drawn art as well as the building itself , a monument of beauty. It took a few days to see everything and the enormous painting that is being shown. I wish to someday return to this museum. it is truly my favorite.
Simply incredible, majestic "hotel particulier" that used to belong to the painter, the amazing symbolist Gustave Moreau. I could spend my life at this place, stunning, amazing, words can't describe properly the wonder of this place.
dark symbolic paintings in an interesting setting - the painter's studio apartment. no queues which was a bonus!
A spectacular staircase, impressive studio space, personal effects make it worth a detour. The walls are covered with mostly unfinished paintings.
