musée de la Chasse et de la Nature, Paris

(4.4/5 based on 200+ reviews on the web)
The exhibits at musée de la Chasse et de la Nature celebrate the relationship between humans and the natural environment through hunting. This museum has been characterized by Smithsonian magazine as "rewarding and inventive." One of the rooms in this strange, quirky museum has a ceiling covered in owl feathers. Each room is given its own name, such as Room of the Boar and Cabinet of the Wolf. You'll be able to examine dozens of the weapons, hunting products, and artwork. • This museum has an unexpected mix of old and modern exhibitions so the feeling is bizarre and very interesting at the end because you enjoy the visit when you first thought it was not for you. I went ...  more »
  • enticed by a Baselitz/Raysky expo we visited this museum. Expo temporary was thin and the rest of the rooms devoted to hunting are interesting when you love hunting; collections of hunting weapons (some fort beautiful) the trophies room, paintings on the hunt. At the same time as the expo Baselitz /Rayski were exposed pictures of German painters on hunting some of whom very well come.

  • This museum is amazing: the parts very well decorated, blending baroque, contemporary and... of animals and other objects of hunting. Beautiful discovery.

  • Hidden gem of Paris's museum offerings. An eclectic break from paintings and sculptures.
  • A small and intimate museum and beautifully curated- This museum has a wonderful mixture of historic pieces and contemporary art that invokes a feeling of a Victorian curiosity cabinet.
  • If you have had enough of fine art galleries this may interest you. Great sculpture, paintings and hunting trophies focused on the natural world and specifically man's historic interaction in the form of hunting and animal domestication.
  • One of my favorite "eclectic" museums in Paris! Great collection of animal art, from Old Masters through to contemporary artists. Thoughtfully curated exhibitions, conferences, workshops and events that center on themes of man and nature. Housed in two beautiful 17th Century "hôtels particuliers" (townhouses), some stuffed animals as well, and an impressive collection of hunting rifles and other paraphernalia. Admission is free on the first Sunday of every month. Open late on Wednesdays. Friendly guards is a plus!
  • More like an art museum built around the hunting and nature themes. Full of details : pay attention ! Plan between 2 and 3 hours to see and read everything in details. Plan around an hour, an hor and a half if you don't read a thing. The price is very reasonable for the quality of the museum. Very friendly staff. Out of the beaten path, so there is no queue and you will be comfortable in the museum (instead of constantly dodging people). If you are tired of traditional or jam-packed museums, do this one absolutely !
