Musée de la Chasse et de la Nature, Paris

(4.5/5 based on 200+ reviews on the web)
The exhibits at Musée de la Chasse et de la Nature celebrate the relationship between humans and the natural environment through hunting. This museum has been characterized by Smithsonian magazine as "rewarding and inventive." One of the rooms in this strange, quirky museum has a ceiling covered in owl feathers. Each room is given its own name, such as Room of the Boar and Cabinet of the Wolf. You'll be able to examine dozens of the weapons, hunting products, and artwork. • I loved this museum that I never even suspected the existence. The Interior has a charm with coins beautifully decorated with various objects, paintings, panels on different topics. The piece I liked (while having compassion for animals) is the trophy room. It is absolutely amazing. Go visit it with your children. They will love. Besides it's free the first Sunday of the month. The Museum staff is also very friendly. This isn't a great Museum. Allow 45 minutes to visit or more depending on your pace.

  • Tour guide of my profession, I know Paris museums much better than my pockets. And I hate hunting and have no sympathy for hunters. But here it is: this museum is exceptionally well staged. When I say unusually, I compare the 186 museums of Paris and Ile-de-France. So, I repeat, it's funny. It is extremely beautiful. That's smart. Despite the hunting!

  • I was unaware of this Museum in Paris and grace randomly I came nose to nose with the entry. The welcome is warm. The rooms are a bit dark to mimic the sobriety of the forest. You have posters with the names of the animals (I didn't know all), instruments of hunts... It's too bad that a part of the Museum was closed to prepare the next expo.

  • Hidden gem of Paris's museum offerings. An eclectic break from paintings and sculptures.
  • A small and intimate museum and beautifully curated- This museum has a wonderful mixture of historic pieces and contemporary art that invokes a feeling of a Victorian curiosity cabinet.
  • If you have had enough of fine art galleries this may interest you. Great sculpture, paintings and hunting trophies focused on the natural world and specifically man's historic interaction in the form of hunting and animal domestication.
  • One of my favorite "eclectic" museums in Paris! Great collection of animal art, from Old Masters through to contemporary artists. Thoughtfully curated exhibitions, conferences, workshops and events that center on themes of man and nature. Housed in two beautiful 17th Century "hôtels particuliers" (townhouses), some stuffed animals as well, and an impressive collection of hunting rifles and other paraphernalia. Admission is free on the first Sunday of every month. Open late on Wednesdays. Friendly guards is a plus!
  • More like an art museum built around the hunting and nature themes. Full of details : pay attention ! Plan between 2 and 3 hours to see and read everything in details. Plan around an hour, an hor and a half if you don't read a thing. The price is very reasonable for the quality of the museum. Very friendly staff. Out of the beaten path, so there is no queue and you will be comfortable in the museum (instead of constantly dodging people). If you are tired of traditional or jam-packed museums, do this one absolutely !
