Musée de la Chasse et de la Nature, Paris

4.5
#37 of 129 in Museums in Paris
Specialty Museum Museum
The exhibits at Musée de la Chasse et de la Nature celebrate the relationship between humans and the natural environment through hunting. This museum has been characterized by Smithsonian magazine as "rewarding and inventive." One of the rooms in this strange, quirky museum has a ceiling covered in owl feathers. Each room is given its own name, such as Room of the Boar and Cabinet of the Wolf. You'll be able to examine dozens of the weapons, hunting products, and artwork. • I had never set foot, and yet I have taught 30 years in the swamp! It's done, I will return because our stayed with a friend for more than two hours. The setting is beautiful and there are loads of different and interesting things, we find a Derain, a Dürer etc - and all the animals from here and elsewhere--

  • Obscure, unique museum devoted to the French love of the hunt throughout the ages. Extensive collection including miniature swords and pistols used by the Royal children. Lots to see and because it's ...  more »
  • Join the very few others who stray far enough afield to get to this little gem of a museum; it's private, not included on the museum pass, and don't let that deter you. The displays are educational, o...  more »

  • I was a little skeptical about going to this museum but the place was pretty awesome and so were the helpful staff!
  • Awesome, well worth finding. Not what you expect but a well curated, eclectic mix. Seems like they are trying to make a statement, but judge for yourself.
  • This is an amazingly photogenic museum! Great place to visit, really cheap tickets.
  • outstanding curation; intellectual respite from Marais district shopping; fascinating exhibits, both temporary and permanent collections; 1 - 2 hours is enough.
  • Amazing Museum in the middle of the famous quartier du Marais, in Paris. It's a formal institution, magnifiscent building , constituted of 2 "Hotels particuliers= de Guenegaud and MOngelas" built in the 17th century" THere are hundreds of historic items, sculptures, tapestries, paintings, but not only!! the curators organize regular exhibitions, not the "classical type" but decided to mix history and contemporary Arts!!!! It's really amazing. Ask the guardians, they give many fascinating stories, about History!!!

Where to stay in Paris

Each of the city’s 20 arrondissements, or districts, has a personality all its own. If you prefer high-end accommodations and to be in the middle of the action, look for lodging in the 1st through the 4th arrondissements. For more affordable lodging and access to major metro lines, try the 12th. The Oberkampf area of the 11th arrondissement has an edgier, more hip vibe. For easy access to tourist sites,  the 16th is within a stone’s throw of the Arc de Triomph and the Eiffel Tower, and the 17th is within walking distance to the Champs-Elysées. Avoid the 18th, 19th, and 20th, because these can be dangerous, especially if you’re not familiar with the city.
