Musee De Cluny, Paris

Amazing!This is a great museum. Awesome to see the medieval tapestries and the golden Christendom items.

Controversially, this is the number one place I recommend to people looking for an "alternative" museum while in Paris. I am a medievalist, and I can confirm that the Musée de Cluny has one of the best collections of medieval art that I have ever seen in one building. The building itself, converted from a Roman Gaulish bath house with gothic and later 19th-century renovations is a museum piece in and of itself. But it has a beautiful collection of art from throughout the medieval period from all over western Europe. It includes stained glass, sculptures, reliquaries, ivory and gold caskets, illuminated manuscripts, and most famously of all the tapestry series The Lady and the Unicorn, considered by many to be the greatest example of tapestry in the world. This museum is centrally located, but doesn't get the footfall (or the extortionary prices) of the Louvre, but it is an amazing off-the-beaten-track treasure trove

I expected to see more of Medieval Paris in this museum like maps of how Paris looked like back then, interiors or any visual content (of how people lived). There were only three rooms available: the Roman baths, The Lady and the Unicorn room, and a room with small treasures of every day objects (like plates, cups, knives etc.) It takes maximum half an hour to see everything, since it’s very small.
