Paris' only skyscraper, Montparnasse Tower rises 210 m (689 ft) into the sky. While the majority of the tower contains offices, it’s also home to a mall where you'll find gift shops and restaurants. Take the elevator to the top floor and walk up the rest of the stairs to the panoramic terrace that contains a permanent exhibition with panels that present Paris and interactive markers, plus a cafe, a gift shop, and floor-to-ceiling windows with 360-degree views of the city. This tower is not as tall as the Eiffel Tower, so you’ll view things that aren’t as easily seen from such great heights. Put Montparnasse Tower into our Paris itinerary planner and find out what's close by, where to stay, and where to head next.

In my opinion, the best time to go to the Observatory is at dusk, you can see the colors of the day and the night of one of the most beautiful cities in the world, the chance to appreciate the city, both day how at night It steals your breath, there is no comparison, especially if you touch them a clear day, I recommend having their passes purchased in advance and enjoy the views.

You can see everything and Montparnasse is a nice artsy part of town. You have to walk up the last two floors.  more »

What's the best vantage point in Paris? The Eiffel? No! The Montparnasse! Because you get a view of the city scape along with the Eiffel in it! Mind boggling view. But the cocktails at the terrace are...  more »

One of the most beautiful views of Paris can be seen from this ugly, asbestos-contaminated tower. In the US, asbestos was banned in 1973. In France, it wasn't banned until 1997. Now, in 2017, 20 years after the (very late) French ban, they still haven't cleaned up the Tour Montparnasse. If you're just visiting as a tourist, it's fine, but I definitely would never rent business space here. On the positive side, Paris recently picked a renovation plan for the tower, and it will (eventually) look less ugly and be less dangerous for your health. Nice view though.

Breathtaking and incredible view of Paris especially during the sunset. Great shortstop after long day to wonder and enjoy the scenery. And the best thing about Montana's Tower is that when you are on it you get incredible views and you don't see Montparnasse Tower:-)

(Go at 20:30 so you can see the Eiffel tower sparkling at 21:00) I was super excited to view Paris from the top of this place; until they packed me in an elevator full of stinky tourists. Luckily I was able to hold my breath the 30 seconds it takes the elevator to rise 50 something stories. My ears popped. 5 stars, worth the stink.

Great views, but the cafe prices were high, especially since we had paid a reasonable amount to enter. Great photo opportunities, though, so it is worth the visit.

The views upstairs are great. Nice view of the the Eiffel Tower. Unfortunately, no view from the lift, which would have been amazing given how fast it travels up (58 stories in 38 seconds). The Tower itself (inside and outside) is ugly.

Where to stay in Paris

Each of the city’s 20 arrondissements, or districts, has a personality all its own. If you prefer high-end accommodations and to be in the middle of the action, look for lodging in the 1st through the 4th arrondissements. For more affordable lodging and access to major metro lines, try the 12th. The Oberkampf area of the 11th arrondissement has an edgier, more hip vibe. For easy access to tourist sites,  the 16th is within a stone’s throw of the Arc de Triomph and the Eiffel Tower, and the 17th is within walking distance to the Champs-Elysées. Avoid the 18th, 19th, and 20th, because these can be dangerous, especially if you’re not familiar with the city.
