  • Unlike Père-Lachaise, the Montparnasse Cemetery is centrally located and therefore easier access. It is not a very large cemetery, but there are many famous ones buried there: Baudelaire, Porfírio Diaz, Sartre and Simone, Julio Cortázar, among others. It is not very easy to find the graves, it is necessary to pay close attention, even because there is not much ostentatious. On the other hand, there are quite curious tombs and, somewhat strange to say, amusing. It is close to the catacombs of Paris and it is possible to combine the two tours.

  • I've visited this smaller version of Pierre Lachaise several times, and am never disappointed. So much to see if you are interested in old cemeteries and in history in general. Make sure to find the 1...  more »
  • The ancient cemetery, founded in 1824. Many famous people are buried, there are Russians among them: chess champion Alexander Alekhine.

  • Such a peaceful and beautiful place to walk around and remember the history and people of Paris in years gone by. Truly quite fascinating to walk through and see the crypts both new and old side by side, an interesting testament to the way Paris has endured as a city with so many eras cohesively blending together.
  • Beautiful and somewhat chilling. It's amazing that there are whole sections of the cemetery are from within the last decade mixed in with crypts that are much older. A timeless place.
  • Very beautiful cemetery, you can see some of France's icons here. I particularly liked the tombs of Brancusi and Serge Gainsbourg!
  • Lots of interesting graves and sculptures. The highlight for us was jean paul sartre's grave.
  • Seems strange to rate a cemetery. But this is one of the best thing that I did it in Paris so I walking pass and when get in there and stay an hour to look around. I can feel some sad and love in there. This place can put me out from the busy world and become peaceful.
