Montparnasse, Paris

(4.1/5 based on 1,000+ reviews on the web)
Once a labyrinth filled with artists' studios and roaring cafes, most of Montparnasse was flattened during the 1960s to accommodate a train station and Tour Montparnasse, the only skyscraper in the main part of Paris. Over recent years, the area has evolved into a neighborhood where you can find reasonable short-term rentals, budget cafes, and a down-to-earth vibe that's missing from many of the trendier neighborhoods. Put Montparnasse into our Paris vacation generator and find out what's close by, where to stay, and where to head next.

  • I must admit that I have been to Paris already five times in 27 years but this area I had never visited. Really nice. You can visit the famous Tour, but for me what makes it fascinating are the restaurants, outdoor cafes, cinemas, the famous creperie, the boulangeries. In the evening a crowd of young and old, cluttered this neighborhood that is even slightly libertine, especially on rue de la Gaitè.Si breathes a different air. Go There ... Recommended.

  • Montparnasse is the area around the large modern office tower. Montmartre is where the artists used to live and right behind Sacre Coeur. If you are reading the reviews that state the artist area and ...  more »
  • Montparnasse is a neighborhood to the left of the river Seine and with atmosphere and tradition. Not have the charm of other areas of Paris, but, to his time, is a district very Parisian. Deserves lapeña traverse it, drink coffee and enjoy its streets.
