Montmartre Cemetery, Paris

4.3
Montmartre Cemetery has a number of famous occupants. This cemetery is most noteworthy, however, for its ornate tombstones, sculptures, and the macabre, touching memorials Parisians have left for their dead. To plan Paris vacation without wasting time, ask Inspirock to design an itinerary.

  • It is the third largest cemetery in Paris opened in 1800 g. not far away from the Moulin Rouge and Montparnasse. To visit this place better prepare in advance whose tombs you want to visit. At the entrance stands with schema hang cemetery and the graves of famous people, but not very comfortable. There are laminated sheets, diagrams, but they were quickly dismantled. Here are buried Heinrich Heine, Stendhal, Degas, Trjufo, Delilah and many other famous personalities. Clean, well cared for, the old Crypts does not depress.

  • This was a great experience. Lots of history. Highly recommend.
  • Peace and quiet here. Some places are hard to find.
  • It's nice for a short walk-through, but gets monotone after awhile. You feel a melancholic atmosphere walking next to the graves of people that have shaped history. Worth a short visit when you are in the area, entrance is free.
  • MARIE TAGLIONI is NOT buried at their cemetery. It's her mother's grave aka Sophia Karsten which is here . Please stop advising she is buried here . Marie is buried at # 94 Rue pacthod of Perè La Chaise under the name - Comtesse Gilbert de Voisins .. her fame name .
  • Beautiful cemetery, home to very well known figures. Many stray cats can also be seen roaming around.

Where to stay in Paris

Each of the city’s 20 arrondissements, or districts, has a personality all its own. If you prefer high-end accommodations and to be in the middle of the action, look for lodging in the 1st through the 4th arrondissements. For more affordable lodging and access to major metro lines, try the 12th. The Oberkampf area of the 11th arrondissement has an edgier, more hip vibe. For easy access to tourist sites,  the 16th is within a stone’s throw of the Arc de Triomph and the Eiffel Tower, and the 17th is within walking distance to the Champs-Elysées. Avoid the 18th, 19th, and 20th, because these can be dangerous, especially if you’re not familiar with the city.
