Medici Fountain, Paris
(4.6/5 based on 100+ reviews on the web)
Now a beautiful attraction in Paris, Medici Fountain was originally created in the 17th century at the Luxembourg gardens for Maria de' Medici, Queen of France. You can visit this site and admire the romantic fountain in a peaceful atmosphere. The grotto fountain is adorned with columns and completely covered with reliefs that simulate water seeping from rock walls.

The fountain is also decorated with allegorical statues, which were added much later. The first statue, Venus in the center niche, is now replaced by the mythological figures of the lovers Acis and Galatea in white Carrara marble. The jealous Cyclops statue, Polyphemus, observes the couple from a ledge. Brush up on your mythology before you arrive to really enjoy these artistic stories. • Enchanting place, charming fountain! How many times was in Paris, still want to take a look at it again. He is straight as if the living symbol of an era, which played such an important role in the country's history.

  • Everything has been said on this fountain, who indeed bears the name of its founder, Marie de Medici widow of Henri IV in the 17th century. She undergoes the displacements and changes during the urbanization of the capital. The sculptor Auguste Ottin, in the period of the great works of Haussmann, added what makes its originality today, a set of mythological characters, which the goddess marine Galatea and the Cyclops that contrasts with the two young lovers entwined. This fountain is not well sign posted and when it's discovered one is struck by the charm of these places, which remain a haven of peace in the middle of the Luxembourg Garden. The chairs under the shade you can enjoy the lovely setting and a break, especially in the summer when it's hot. It is accessible from the main entrance to the garden and then taking on the right along the street of Medici. The garden is served by the RER B "Luxembourg" side boulevard Saint Michel station.
