Maison Chaudun, Paris

4.3
#98 of 308 in Shopping in Paris
Indulge in the delicious treats at Maison Chaudun, a renowned chocolate shop. Look for sculpted chocolate creations, including animals, purses, watches, and, of course, the Eiffel Tower. More traditional chocolates are available for those with simpler taste. The New York Times has called owner Michael Chaudun "wildly talented as an artist and chocolate sculptor." Consider trying the specialty chocolate paves or cubes of ganache dusted with cocoa powder. Use our Paris trip planner to arrange your visit to Maison Chaudun and other attractions in Paris.

  • My previous opinion on the chocolatier Michel Chaudun was somewhat harsh... I have observed since a net improvement of the reception despite prices that remain extremely high. Visual identity of the store has been redone, which is a more despite of new a little too common packaging compared to the chic of the previous ones. New owner?... I'll investigate!

  • We stopped here in 2012 (I think) on a cold night in December when we happened to be walking by. The person working was very nice and offered us the Pave chocolates. They are an explosion of flavor fo...  more »

  • Their "La Paves " is a must try. Best chocolate ever!
  • Visually stunning chocolate that is artfully crafted into works of art. This small corner shop in the 7th arrondissement of Paris, is definitely worth a visit. It's magical shop where your eyes and stomach join in amazement and wonder ... and all that enter feel like a kid in a candy shop!
  • Life is like a box of chocolates. Michel Chaudun makes life more sweet and interesting with each piece. Perfect edible souvenir and/or gift for any occasion! The pavés are addicting and resemble the cobble stone streets of paris.
  • I visited seven chocolate shops on a "promenade du chocolat" that I mapped out for myself on a recent trip. Though far outside the awesome nexus of chocolate to the W of the Jardins du Luxembourg, this shop demands a visit. It's a marvelously old-fashioned curiosity shop / magic shop of sculpted chocolate, molded chocolate, the famous pavés (little perfect soft squares of dusted ganache) and marvelous bon bons. The service is impeccable but also friendly and genuine. Unpretentious even though it is such an exquisite place. I have been raving about it ever since and urging folks in person and online to go there to try the wonderful chocolates. Really superb and a memorable experience. Note that the pavés are more delicate and short-lived by all accounts. If you like pistachio and marzipan, you must get their pistachio marzipan chocolate. I'd get a whole box of those. What a treasure!!!!!
  • Best chocolates I've tried!

Where to stay in Paris

Each of the city’s 20 arrondissements, or districts, has a personality all its own. If you prefer high-end accommodations and to be in the middle of the action, look for lodging in the 1st through the 4th arrondissements. For more affordable lodging and access to major metro lines, try the 12th. The Oberkampf area of the 11th arrondissement has an edgier, more hip vibe. For easy access to tourist sites,  the 16th is within a stone’s throw of the Arc de Triomph and the Eiffel Tower, and the 17th is within walking distance to the Champs-Elysées. Avoid the 18th, 19th, and 20th, because these can be dangerous, especially if you’re not familiar with the city.
