Lutetia, Paris

3.5
Considered a significant historical location, Lutetia was a town in pre-Roman and Roman Gaul and the ancestor of present-day Paris. Very little is now left of the ancient city, although more is currently being discovered. In a small park on high ground in the Latin Quarter of the Left Bank, tucked behind apartment blocks, you can still see some remains of the 1st century amphitheater, or Arènes de Lutèce. You can also find remains of public baths at the Musée de Cluny and the Early Christian archeological crypt under the Notre Dame forecourt, now Place of Pope John-Paul II.

Explore a little more to find a road dating back 2,000 years, discovered at the site during expansion of the campus on University of Pierre and Marie Curie. During the excavation here, remains of private houses containing Roman baths and heated floors were found. • Nice Brasserie, and very attentive waitress. Good lunch: roasted chicken: €11.70 The greedy: €6.90 reasonable rate for the area. Small glass of Manzana graciously offered to the right customers.

  • This hotel is one of the most famous hotels on the left bank of Paris. It was built in the early 20th century in the art nouveau style and now rises majestically over the surrounding landscape

  • wonderful little spot recommended by friend. Had snails, red fish with lobster sauce and rice, creme brûlée topped it off. waiter was excellent and Francois at bar and manager was super. will eat there again before leaving Paris
  • DO NOT GO!! If I could leave 0 stars I would. Horribly rude service that makes you feel like an exploitable consumer. No kind of politeness whatsoever. Food was below any kind of decency. Not even the piece of toast. Do not trust a café by its looks.
  • Tourist trap. The beer was good, chicken was disgusting, espresso was terrible. I didn't get sick or anything, but save your euros.
  • It's rather zero star. The worst service I've ever experienced.
  • Recommend! Every time I come to Paris, I come to this place to eat Tartar steak. Amazing taste and location is perfect!

Where to stay in Paris

Each of the city’s 20 arrondissements, or districts, has a personality all its own. If you prefer high-end accommodations and to be in the middle of the action, look for lodging in the 1st through the 4th arrondissements. For more affordable lodging and access to major metro lines, try the 12th. The Oberkampf area of the 11th arrondissement has an edgier, more hip vibe. For easy access to tourist sites,  the 16th is within a stone’s throw of the Arc de Triomph and the Eiffel Tower, and the 17th is within walking distance to the Champs-Elysées. Avoid the 18th, 19th, and 20th, because these can be dangerous, especially if you’re not familiar with the city.
