Le Musée de Montmartre, Paris

(4.3/5 based on 480+ reviews on the web)
Le Musée de Montmartre occupies two historical buildings, the Hotel Demarne and the Maison du Bel Air, and is home to the works of many famous artists and writers, such as Renoir. The painter created his great works "La Balançoire" and "Le Bal du Moulin de la Galette" here in 1876. As you explore, you can relive the "boheme artistique" of Montmartre, the spirit of its celebrated cabarets, and the important history of the mount itself. Outside, a charming garden has been renovated to resemble Renoir's paintings for a bit of living art. To visit Le Musée de Montmartre on your trip to Paris, use our Paris trip builder.

  • Adorable bath of freshness and tranquillity strolling through the gardens of Renoir, views of the vineyards of Montmartre, browse the old remains at wooden staircases, the workshop of Utrillo and a very nice temporary exhibition on Buffet.

  • Many times wandered in Montmartre but have never visited the museum this intimate "artistic life" in the Montmartre of yesteryear. It was really a surprise to this museum and related gardens to visit. In the garden you have a wonderful view of le lapin agile and the vineyard of Montmartre. The museum is not yet trodden by the mass tourists who get stuck in the surrounding streets.

  • Workshop and home of Suzanne Valadon and Utrillo, and other painters, very nice garden in a framework Montmartrois quieter than the place du Tertre nearby and a cfe Renoir much pleasant to complete the visit; Currently Bernard Buffet exhibition

  • The entrance fee of €11 (adult) is robbery and definitely not worth it. This place should be free admission, it's a state museum so is getting subsidized and yet they are charging an enormous entry fee for what is really a very small gallery. There are much better places you can spend your €11 in Paris. Avoid, until it is free to enter.
  • What a fantastic treasure in the heart of Montmartre! Art and history in a perfect setting. Don't miss the gardens and the vineyard.
  • Less art than advertised, primary a historical museum about the hedonistic "vie boheme" that consumed Montmartre in the late 1800's. Interesting background to the famous or infamous artists of that time.
  • Usually a calm shelter from the touristic mass. Retains a sense of the Rustic butte and the lives of the locals.
  • I planned to visit this museum but I had no idea it is so good and much bigger than I expected. To visit the whole of it, have coffee in the museum cafe, have a rest in its beautiful garden and do the shopping in the museum store you will need at least half of a day. But it will be great time for sure especially if you are an art lover.
