Where to stay in Paris

Each of the city’s 20 arrondissements, or districts, has a personality all its own. If you prefer high-end accommodations and to be in the middle of the action, look for lodging in the 1st through the 4th arrondissements. For more affordable lodging and access to major metro lines, try the 12th. The Oberkampf area of the 11th arrondissement has an edgier, more hip vibe. For easy access to tourist sites,  the 16th is within a stone’s throw of the Arc de Triomph and the Eiffel Tower, and the 17th is within walking distance to the Champs-Elysées. Avoid the 18th, 19th, and 20th, because these can be dangerous, especially if you’re not familiar with the city.

  • I completely agree with the previous reviewer - the chocolate is delicious; the working space is fascinating; but even one small piece of chocolate to taste would have added to the experience.  more »

  • The atmosphere, the aroma of chocolate, the selection of ganaches and pralines, and the service! We took our time, and we did not feel rushed at all! It was a wonderful experience, all around!!!
  • This is the best chocolate in the world. And the store is beautiful.
  • Willy Wonka & the Chocolate Factory Paris style.
  • Love the chocolate here and always pick some up when I'm in the area. Prices are high, as can be expected by the name.
  • I've been writing about chocolate for 8 years and was excited to visit Alain Ducasse. Unfortunately, I cannot recommend it. The atmosphere in the shop is typically old-fashioned French - in a nutshell, it's intimidating and pretentious. We explained to the staff that we were press and wanted to write about Ducasse, but the staff were rude and dismissive. They wouldn't let us take photos at all - either of the shop or the factory, and couldn't really explain the products. Having bought some of the bean to bar chocolate to eat later, I was shocked to discover that it had been made with mouldy cocoa beans and was entirely inedible. I don't know how it managed to end up on sale without any kind of quality control. It's an understatement to say I was disappointed. There is plenty of fabulous chocolate in Paris, but unless and until they get their act together, this is a place to avoid.
