Sculpture in bronze by Caesar in 1985 on a command of the State. We knew Caesar for the trophies that he realized for film awards but here, this achievement puzzles me more than. Good idea to learn from Greek mythology to create a work of art but how does interpret it? And what does echo instead or something else? And why the State - he ordered? The sculptor is auto-portraitisé: is that of self-mockery? megalomania? a simple gesture in the mood? a fantasy of artist? A lot of questions. Few answers. Only an artist could explain his motives, but he's gone. The statue is not ideally placed in this flowing hub. It is true that originally, it was scheduled for another place. The concrete base is Basic. The whole is quite dark. It is necessary to approach to see more clearly. I'm not a fan! Caesar could have done better but when your name is Caesar... we probably pegged to body modesty...

This bronze sculpture was conducted by César (1921-1998). It is located place Michel Debré in the sixth arrondissement. 4.7 meters high sculpture represents a Centaur: a creature of Mythology Greek with a body of horse and a bust of man. The man's head is that of Caesar who represented himself. This work is a homage to Picasso (master and friend of Caesar). In fact, at first Caesar had considered represent the head of Picasso, but he eventually opted for a self-portrait. Caesar used materials recovered at the dump of scrap (nuts, bolts, shovel, rake, tubes, rods,...) to make this sculpture. He then sank them in bronze. A dove of peace is placed on the left hand of the imaginary creature. A small statue of liberty lies in the breastplate of the beast. The tail of the animal is composed of a shovel and a rake. This delusional creature deserves to be seen. This work is one of the most beautiful sculptures of Caesar or one of the less horrible.

The Centaur of the artist Caesar place Michel Debré, at the corner of the streets of Sèvres and of looking for Midi in District 6. This Centaur of 5 m high on pedestal, made in bronze with nuts, with objects of everyday life, represents a body of horse with a human head and bust that Caesar has had, in his usual, the idea to represent! It dates from 1983 and was inaugurated on October 10, 1985. Caesar dedicates it to Pablo Picasso, which is represented on the visor over the head mask, still some winks to Œil, favorite artist. In observing this work well, you can see dear Caesar symbols, like the dove of peace that holds the left hand and more subtle, a mini Statue of liberty, hidden in the breastplate. Observe carefully! This work is accessible by the metro station "Sèvres Babylone" lines No. 10 and 12.

This Centaur since 1985. Caesar carved it assisted by Bocquel. It is an order of the State.

Where to stay in Paris

Each of the city’s 20 arrondissements, or districts, has a personality all its own. If you prefer high-end accommodations and to be in the middle of the action, look for lodging in the 1st through the 4th arrondissements. For more affordable lodging and access to major metro lines, try the 12th. The Oberkampf area of the 11th arrondissement has an edgier, more hip vibe. For easy access to tourist sites,  the 16th is within a stone’s throw of the Arc de Triomph and the Eiffel Tower, and the 17th is within walking distance to the Champs-Elysées. Avoid the 18th, 19th, and 20th, because these can be dangerous, especially if you’re not familiar with the city.
