La Gaite Lyrique, Paris

3.7
#107 of 146 in Museums in Paris
After a 10 year revamp, La Gaite Lyrique has been turned into Paris’s first ever digital cultural center. Come and explore this seven-floor multidisciplinary concert hall that invites you into the realms of digital art, music, graphics, film, fashion, design, and video games. The resource center also presents workshops, educational courses, and training in information retrieval.

Its program explores the relatively unchartered territory of digital art and the role of technology in artistic expression with displays such as electronic music concerts, live multimedia performances, guest appearances by famous international artists and DJs, and film projections. You can even just drop by for a decent cup of coffee and a flit through the magazines. • The opera National de Paris offers, La Gaité Lyrique, 8-10 October 2017, a festival called 3rd stage. We can see, in various places, 26 films on dance, music and Opera. A good experience.

  • It has been casuliadad. We didn't know HER group but he managed to return to the mid 80, a few French that sing in English... we left fat of emotion. Good good good... is a cultural center with a half Concert Hall closed and very well-made. Surprised as Parisians have a few centres as active and achieved. I add photos. Not stop looking to match a concert...

  • Super staff, plusieurs activités et un endroit accueillant. Awesome staff, super helpful, lots of activities and welcoming place. Only thing is that it opens at 2 pm. But the coffee shop nextdoor is great !
  • One of the best place to study. Sometimes they hold a conference or exhibiton or event. Sometimes could be too crowded but if you come around 14h it should be okay. Hint: go for saturday, sometimes its not crowded at all
  • Fantastic place to work on a budget. Free entrance and wifi, you don't have to pay for anything unless you want to eat something, which there's a small bar inside! Great place when you don't want to work from home and need to watch your expenses.
  • Great contemporary art and social place. Known for having a great selection of artists and events. Possibility to have a drink and to work from a computer in the coffee place or in the library, access to a small but well selected library.
  • A veritable cultural center, you can contemplate art at its exhibitions, play video games or simply have a drink with friends at its cafeteria. The venue also hosts many special arts and cultural events, including concerts by major artists.

Where to stay in Paris

Each of the city’s 20 arrondissements, or districts, has a personality all its own. If you prefer high-end accommodations and to be in the middle of the action, look for lodging in the 1st through the 4th arrondissements. For more affordable lodging and access to major metro lines, try the 12th. The Oberkampf area of the 11th arrondissement has an edgier, more hip vibe. For easy access to tourist sites,  the 16th is within a stone’s throw of the Arc de Triomph and the Eiffel Tower, and the 17th is within walking distance to the Champs-Elysées. Avoid the 18th, 19th, and 20th, because these can be dangerous, especially if you’re not familiar with the city.
