La Defense, Paris
(3.9/5 based on 1,200+ reviews on the web)
La Defense is the site of the Grande Arche, one of Paris' most modern and imposing landmarks, situated at the western end of the grand axis formed by the Champs-Elysées, the Place de la Concorde, and the Arc de Triomphe. This modern high-rise business district of Paris is a purpose-built: In the 1960s, Charles de Gaulle led an effort to concentrate skyscrapers in a single business district, rather than alter the character of downtown Paris with large commercial buildings. You'll find the district at the start of the western outskirts of the city, beyond the last Parisian loop of the river Seine. Plan your La Defense visit and explore what else you can see and do in Paris using our Paris trip itinerary maker.

  • I do not recommend this business district which includes only one set of small dirty buildings, the square in front of the defence is very badly maintained, nothing to do interesting, when you saw the Ark, you just have to turn around. The metro is not safe and I do advise you to go with a bag. Let's go maybe once out of curiosity and still... I could have done

  • It's still a starbucks and always crowded but the staff is unpleasant - without a smile and they talk to you coldly.

  • We went back to visit this very modern neighborhood, with an Esplanade, supplies, decorations and squares, which gives pleasure to see. We got to walk from the Bois de Boulogne and saw new structures that turned out to be of the "Biennale de création de mobilier urbain de La Défense - 3ème edition" produced by form post. Another attraction of this district. Of course in addition to the Esplanade, so high, glazed, bright buildings are the most spectacular. In the background is the Grand Arche de la Défense, which were arranging, but we never got to the (already knew it) then we went on the subway. Here is the automatic line (line 1) terminal there is another station in the Defense (Esplanade de la défense).

  • Magnifique! Stayed st tempolodge for about a year during my work tenure in Paris. I liked the place a lot. Would definitely recommend to others
  • Hotel modest and somewhat cheaper than the zone in which it is located. Few services. Reception closed much of the time.
