Cardinal de Richelieu, the prime minister for King Louis XIII, commissioned the construction of the palace surrounding Jardin du Palais Royal in 1629. These gardens, enclosed within the walls of the palace, were first opened to the public in the 18th century. There are numerous restaurants inside the gardens, including famous Le Grand Véfour. Seek out the controversial modern art piece Colonnes de Buren, installed within the interior courtyard. Where to stay in Paris

Each of the city’s 20 arrondissements, or districts, has a personality all its own. If you prefer high-end accommodations and to be in the middle of the action, look for lodging in the 1st through the 4th arrondissements. For more affordable lodging and access to major metro lines, try the 12th. The Oberkampf area of the 11th arrondissement has an edgier, more hip vibe. For easy access to tourist sites,  the 16th is within a stone’s throw of the Arc de Triomph and the Eiffel Tower, and the 17th is within walking distance to the Champs-Elysées. Avoid the 18th, 19th, and 20th, because these can be dangerous, especially if you’re not familiar with the city.

  • Jardin du Palais Royal is a short stroll from the Louvre and surrounded by a superb revolutionary architecture. Jardin du Palais Royal has extensive walking space. This is a perfect spot to relax and enjoy your time. There are sculptures and benches everywhere so you can sit and adore the scenery. There are black and white pillars at the end which is very photographic.
  • A charming park to stroll through. Don't forget to look at the columns in the palais.
  • Beautiful area to walk through or to enjoy a coffee from one of the many cafes situated at the side of the park. Go to the end for some good photo opportunities on the black and white pillars.
  • Wide walking area with benches. Closed out and modern. Gardens in the middle of the park. It is most convenient park to relax and enjoy your time
  • I loved this area, it's not so much out in the open and doesn't have the crowds of other downtown gardens. There are sculptures and benches everywhere so you can sit and enjoy the scenery.
