Jardin du Palais Royal, Paris

4.5
#11 of 49 in Parks in Paris
Cardinal de Richelieu, the prime minister for King Louis XIII, commissioned the construction of the palace surrounding Jardin du Palais Royal in 1629. These gardens, enclosed within the walls of the palace, were first opened to the public in the 18th century. There are numerous restaurants inside the gardens, including famous Le Grand Véfour. Seek out the controversial modern art piece Colonnes de Buren, installed within the interior courtyard. One of many beautiful Parisian gardens, this is one of my favorites. Symmetry and integration with the surrounding architecture give special charm.

Jardin du Palais Royal is a short stroll from the Louvre and surrounded by a superb revolutionary architecture. Jardin du Palais Royal has extensive walking space. This is a perfect spot to relax and enjoy your time. There are sculptures and benches everywhere so you can sit and adore the scenery. There are black and white pillars at the end which is very photographic.

Beautiful area to walk through or to enjoy a coffee from one of the many cafes situated at the side of the park. Go to the end for some good photo opportunities on the black and white pillars.

Super relaxing. Unknown to many people but so beautiful especially in the summer season. I have the luck to work nearby and this is awesome at lunch time when people go there to tan and have fun at their break. In winter it is also nice but very cold.

Where to stay in Paris

Each of the city’s 20 arrondissements, or districts, has a personality all its own. If you prefer high-end accommodations and to be in the middle of the action, look for lodging in the 1st through the 4th arrondissements. For more affordable lodging and access to major metro lines, try the 12th. The Oberkampf area of the 11th arrondissement has an edgier, more hip vibe. For easy access to tourist sites,  the 16th is within a stone’s throw of the Arc de Triomph and the Eiffel Tower, and the 17th is within walking distance to the Champs-Elysées. Avoid the 18th, 19th, and 20th, because these can be dangerous, especially if you’re not familiar with the city.
