Hotel de Ville, Paris
(4.3/5 based on 1,000+ reviews on the web)
Hotel de Ville houses Paris's city government, and is one of the loveliest buildings in town. For a good view from outside, go to the top floor of the Bazar de l'Hôtel de Ville (BHV) department store opposite, and walk up a flight of stairs to the roof terrace. The present structure replaced the 16th-century original, which burned down in 1871. An enlarged pastiche of its predecessor, the new building was built by the architects Ballu and Deperthes and was mostly completed by 1882. The building is lavishly decorated both inside and out, and finished in an arresting white stone, similar to that used for the Sacre-Coeur basilica. When Paris was liberated from the Germans in 1944, General de Gaulle greeted the crowds from a front window of the building. Robespierre was shot in the jaw and arrested in the original building in 1794. • I have seen some city halls across Europe but really this one has art in its lifeblood. And they want the place to keep its museum appeal. Great place to visit.
  • Beautiful exhibition that we EMU to tears recounting the life of is great character through objects that have belonged to him, documentaries, articles... Very full and lively, not to be missed!

  • We can approach from the Cathedral of Notre Dame, taking a walk, and seeing as already at night its your image is very beautiful, with a building that recalls the Grand Place of Brussels and other Flemish construction. If you are visiting with children, do not miss your carousel.

  • The Hôtel de Ville, isn’t really a hotel. It’s the city hall of Paris. This very spot in Paris is historical. Its doors has seen both revolution, oppression and liberation. The facade of the building was adorned with many names of people who have made their mark in history. It's actually a place with a vibe of activity and a place to just watch people come out and play. Today, there’s a bubble blower out making large joyful bubbles in the air. Sometimes there might be an exhibition happening right outside and during Christmas, there's a carousel that kids can ride for free
  • Probably one of the most beautiful baby in buildings in Paris. Can't recall any city hall that looks so amazing and detailed.
  • Not your average city hall 😍 This place is magical. You can visit and just look at the building all day :)
  • We saw it by night. It was magnificent!
  • Nice City Hall building. Not a hotel!!!
