Fontaine Stravinsky, Paris

(4/5 based on 130+ reviews on the web)
A whimsical public fountain ornamented with 16 works of sculpture, plus moving and spraying water representing the works of composer Igor Stravinsky, Fontaine Stravinsky was created in 1983 by sculptors Jean Tinguely and Niki de Saint Phalle. The fountain is a shallow basin of 580 sq m (6,243 sq ft) above the Institut de Recherche et Coordination Acoustique/Musique, an organization devoted to promoting modern music and musicology. Because of the offices and rooms below, the fountain was designed to be as lightweight as possible, with very shallow water, a bottom of stainless steel, and sculptures composed of plastic and other light materials. • We found many fountains in Paris not working and with no water, I believe it can be because of the ice forming in the winter but although I may understand that reason it turns out to be disappointing ...  more »

  • Fountain with beautiful art works at two steps from the Pompidou centre... Too bad that there is no water and the fountain was dirty.

  • This is great little spot to relax and take in some public art. The fountain is full of photo opportunities, and has a real "pick me up" type vibe to it with all the bright colours and uniquely designed statues. It's a great family hangout area also, with plenty of fun and games for children and parents.
  • easy to miss this historic fountain amidst the chaos. great place to relax for a bit.
  • Busy but pleasant square surrounding the fountains themselves, which are interesting visually. Bordered by a number of cafés and patisseries, with outdoor seating.
  • Interesting fountain, nice square with cafes. Don't love the cafes that much, I wish they were a little cuter or nicer.
  • Worth popping over for a brief sit if you are in the area, don't go out of your way though.
