  • the Museum of the cinematheque is overall a very good Museum. audioguide, explanations clear and works well highlighted. m surprised that c is the tropism on all the technical aspects, animation, history of the image and the shooting. Finally, there is little about movies, stories, objects of some films. overall it's still very good and interesting although the audio comments are long. count 1 h 30 to 2 h. €5 free audioguide.

  • Made the journey out of central Paris to parc de bercy today only to find it is closed throughout August. Hope this stops you making the same mistake!  more »

  • If you love movies (but they don't do blockbusters) this is a really nice place... You can even enjoy a good organic beer (but you'll have to buy something to eat alongside because they don't own the license to sell alcoholic drinks only) and take a nap in the park around the building
  • I have been to Paris twice now, desperate to visit this museum. However, they fail to advertise their holiday closure, and yet again, I missed out on visiting! I know that it is closed most of summer, which is impractical. I would love to learn more about the Melies collection and the buildings architecture (Ghery) so I hope to revisit at some point again, when it is open. 🤷🏻‍♀️
  • Great place! I only went to the museum. Good information provided and amazing machines and historical registers
  • I loved the Musee--Hollywood has no sense of history and this is one of the best collections of movie material I have ever seen! From equipment (and costume) used by Melies and the Lumiere brothers through Film Noir, the museum shows you the history of film through equipment, costume, and film. There is a remarkable replica of the Metropolis Robot built by the man who made the original; storyboards from Cabinet of Dr. Caligari,; and a wonderful Charlie Chaplin caricature/autograph. I only wich I had had the time to go through their extensice film and publication ligrary! The Musee (and attached theater) is a short train ride from Paris and has a very nice little cafe attached. I recommend it highly.
  • Nothing too crazy to see here. The bookstore is neat and the museum exhibit is quite underwhelming.

Where to stay in Paris

Each of the city’s 20 arrondissements, or districts, has a personality all its own. If you prefer high-end accommodations and to be in the middle of the action, look for lodging in the 1st through the 4th arrondissements. For more affordable lodging and access to major metro lines, try the 12th. The Oberkampf area of the 11th arrondissement has an edgier, more hip vibe. For easy access to tourist sites,  the 16th is within a stone’s throw of the Arc de Triomph and the Eiffel Tower, and the 17th is within walking distance to the Champs-Elysées. Avoid the 18th, 19th, and 20th, because these can be dangerous, especially if you’re not familiar with the city.
