Passy Cemetery is a cemetery in Passy, in the 16th arrondissement of Paris, France.HistoryThe current cemetery replaced the old cemetery, which was closed in 1802.In the early 19th century, on the orders of Napoleon I, Emperor of the French, all the cemeteries in Paris were replaced by several large new ones outside the precincts of the capital. Montmartre Cemetery was built in the north, Père Lachaise Cemetery in the east, and Montparnasse Cemetery in the south. Passy Cemetery was a later addition, but has its origins in the same edict. The current entrance was built in 1934 . The retaining wall of the cemetery is adorned with a bas relief commemorating the soldiers who fell in World War I.

  • Many personalities are. The place is near the Eiffel Tower and so can be neglected and it's a shame. Pretty green and nice view on the Eiffel Tower. The negative: it's super loud and not very calm suddenly.

  • My favorite place visited in Paris. Originally went to simply find the grave of Claude Debussy, my favorite composer; but I found so much more! Americans like me, especially those over 40, will surely recognize many of France's most famous names here, especially those from the fields of music, art, fashion, politics and perfumery. Even some famed non-French greats may be found here, like the Shah of Iran's daughter who committed suicide when she was 31. Her grave is always adorned by live flowers. This is an especially good place to go if the day is hot and the tourists too thick. It is cool, shady, solitary and quiet here -- a feast for the eyes and soul. Many beautiful mausoleums containing lovely stained glass. The graves themselves are often works of art. Highly recommended.
  • A wonderful old cemetery where some of France's greats are buried: Edouard Manet and Berthe Morisot, both famed for their impressionist paintings. It's a fun walk around the numerous imposing headstones.
  • Clearly structured cemetery located near the Trocadero. Have discovered the tomb of actor Fernandel (Don Camillo). Furthermore you can find here: the aircraft manufacturer Marcel Dassault, the composer Claude Debussy, the painter Éduard Manet, the car manufacturer Marcel Renault, General Charles Huntzinger, which led the weapon arrest shipping hand made 1940 with Germany. Also the mother of Farah Diba and the Princess Leila Pahlavi are buried small cemetery on this for Parisian cemeteries. If you closer with the Parisian cemeteries you not come over to appropriate literature, I even have several books dealing with the history and stories of the individual cemeteries. Usefully you can rent often an overview map with alphabetical order of celebrity burial sites located in the individual cemetery administrations.
